Default Year of 100 Questions: #78

Here's a question where I do want you to factor in costs. Suppose you had the funds to do only one of these trips:

    - Stay in a Moderate for 5 days, along with tickets and meals or
    - Stay in a Value for 7 days, along with tickets and meals

    Which would you choose?

Y100Q79 will be in Dining, probably on Friday. I may also post #80 and #81 (both in Theme Parks) on Friday.

The review of Questions 61-70, along with links to earlier reviews, has been posted here:

No matter what I'll take the longer visit. I'm not picky on where I lay my head in WDW. We litterally sleep and shower in our rooms. There is just way too much to do in WDW to waste the time at the resort. We head to the caribbean when we want to relax by the pool. We just keep going and going while in WDW. The longer the better.

The ambiance is not so much better in a moderate that I could justify fewer days in the parks. If it were between a value and deluxe, the decision would be harder.

I have to agree with KAT. I love the nicer hotels, but if I have to choose I'm staying as long as I can. This upcoming trip we picked the AS Movies so that we could stay six nights, but the good Lord was smiling down on us because we got offered an up-sell. So now we get to stay at POR for less money than it would have cost at AS Movies. Saving money, and a nicer hotel: happy, happy, joy, joy...

We would stay in a value for 7 nights...

#1 - We would be in Disney longer
#2 - The rooms in the moderate resorts aren't big enough to justify the price difference.
#3 - Other than that, the only difference between the mods and the vals is that the mods have TS restaurants. That's also not enough to justify the price increase.

We've only stayed at the Values twice, once was horrible and the last time was very nice. So I chalked up the horrible stay to experience and chose the extra nights.

Wow, so far everyone has voted for what I voted for, and that is to stay 7 nights at a Value Resort instead of the 5 nights at a Moderate Resort. I think the only time I would ever shorten a trip due to where we stayed was if it were a question of staying onsite for less days than staying offsite. Onsite always. Value Resorts are fine for us, Pop Century, we love it!

Well, I'm in the minority. To me the hotel is a continuing part of the experience as a whole. When I'm exhausted from the parks and I want someplace to relax there is nothing like a quiet pool at a beautifully-themed resort. We consider the resort an extension of the theme parks. We love to relax by the pool, sit and people watch while having a drink and snack, strolling the plush, landscaped paths in the early evening, it all adds up to a more relaxed vacation at the Happiest Place on Earth. The Value resorts are too loud and not as peaceful as the moderates (can y'all tell that I like a peaceful environment).

We stayed at a Value 1 time and I would rather stay fewer days to have the upgrade to the moderate. In fact, that is exactly what we do on our vacations.

But atleast you now have company!

We would also opt for the Moderate (but prefer the Deluxe). My wife has had one too many bad experiences in "budget" hotels across the country. While I realize that it is Disney and thus a better overall resort/room at the values than in the budgets of the outside world, there is no way you could convince my wife of this.

For that, I give you all permission to call my family hotel snobs.

Considering that we love the POPS, I would always stay as long as possible, and we really do not use the resorts except for some Breakfasts and to sleep.

I could put up with a lesser hotel experience to get to enjoy the WDW experience longer! Disney is magical no matter where you're staying and we spend most of the time in the parks and are all heavy sleepers anyway!

For the things that matter to me, there's not a huge difference between the values and moderates. Beds are the same size, rooms open into the outside, and there's not any TS restaurants that I would eat at. So I would definitely take the value over the moderates if it meant two more days in the parks.

Given the two options, I, and my DW, would ALWAYS choose the extra days.

Our first stay was at CB and we enjoyed it well enough, but we also enjoy our stays at PC. For us, the room is for sleeping, showering and changing clothes (and catching those "Top ## Lists" on resort TV .) The differences between CB and PC were not enough to justify spending the extra for the room and losing the days in the parks.

I'm with sunlyon & pshokie - I would go with the mod for five days rather than the two extra days in the value.

I only stayed in a value once and that was enough. They just don't have that same Disney feel - no magic and the theming does not excite me. I also find the values to be too busy/loud.

While I definitely prefer the theming/amenities of the deluxe resorts, the mods are a happy medium. POR is scenic and has a TS restaurant and the boat to DTD.

I have never had the opportunity to stay at a Moderate resort - I went from Value right to DVC.

I voted Moderate - after being at POP for President's Day, I have to believe Moderate should be the lowest I go.

Well said!! I'll take the value any day if it means more days in the park. I can't justify a $700 jump from Value to Moderate just because it's has a nicer lobby.

More days at Disney is an easy call to make. After all you can eat where ever you like. The rooms at value sleep real well. We have actually made the choice before and it was worth it

Honestly it depends on which values and which moderates we are talking about here. Given the choice between POP and CBR, I'd take POP. But I'd like to try out the other mods, and I don't know if I could take a whole week at the values so I went with the 5 days.
