Default Port Orleans/River Side or FQ&More Questions

Okay, after looking at the theming, grounds, rooms, and everything, I definitely want to stay at Port Orleans and thought I wanted to stay at Riverside...now looking how compact FQ is I really like the idea of being close to everything. The only complaint I've heard about either report is they are worn and need a makeover....so my questions are, which do you like better and why, Riverside or FQ....Also, anyone have information on possible rehabs in the next year? Thanks so much for helping

We've been fortunate to have stayed at each one. If you put a gun to my head and said, quick choose, I'd would say POR - Alligator Bayou would be my choice.

FQ is smaller, it doesn't have it's own sit down diner (PORR has Boatwrights) and it's food court is smaller, although they do have the begneits.

For me, especially the AB section of POR, it's such a relaxing area to stroll around, and the grounds in general at POR, again for me, I find to be much more relaxing and enjoyable to stroll thru. I think the pool area is nicer at POR, but that can run to individual taste. I want to say that FQ does not have a quiet pool whereas POR does.

On the flip side, you are going to have more people around POR than FQ. FQ I believe has one central bus stop, which I think gets picked up first, then goes to POR, which I think has 4 (or at least 3).

You really can't go wrong with either, I just prefer the feel of POR (never stayed in the Mansions).

Thanks for the reply...I really don't care about the sit down restaurant but my son likes to use the pool but not with a lot of people so that's a consideration.

POR has one main pool, but we also liked the quieter pool close to our hotel room - it was smaller and had almost no one in it when we went. I don't know if POFQ has smaller pools around the grounds. My family - all of us from 8yo to 64yo liked the AB section of POR, and part of that was the ambling, peaceful walk to wherever we were going. It looks like you are trying to avoid the walking - but it's one of the things we enjoyed. I have never stayed at POFQ, but we walked around it (had to get the beignets), and it was tighter, and nice, but it didn't have that peaceful feeling we like so much. It definitely had it's own nice atmosphere, though.

The FQ does not have but one pool, while Riverside has 5 quiet pools and one main pool. Riverside is designed that everything is mostly centralized, so it not a huge walk to anywhere. Don't get me wrong it's a huge resort, and you can get a room right beside the food, or one a few minute's walk. Either way you'll love it there !!

Thanks for the replies...I was considering FQ because of my poor aching feet, but I've been overruled. My mom and son both insist on Riverside. Actually I'm kind of glad because it looks beautiful.

We have stayed at both and both were great.

We prefer POFQ because of the smaller size (less walking after a long day at the parks) and that "generally" if the 2 resort share a bus you get picked up first and and dropped off first (thought this is not true 100% of the time).

POR does have a bigger store, bigger pool, bigger hot tub, bigger arcade, etc (but more people).

My advice is if you are at the parks most of the time, POFQ is a better selection but if you are looking for resort activities, POR would be your best bet. Keep in mind that both resort are a short 10 min walk apart and you can share the services of both.

You will enjoy regardless of you selection.

We have never stayed at POR but we love their
gift shop and food court. It is just a short walk
or boat ride from POFQ where we have stayed.
I think either place you will be happy. Have a
    great time.

I have stayed at the Mansions - specifically Magnolia Terrace. I didn't see that they were very worn. In fact, the room we had was beautiful. The only problem we had was trying to find where the a/c thermostat was but once we found it, things went great. We stayed on the back side which overlooked the back parking lot but because of our location we were able to catch the bus at the East Depot which was literally 30-40 seconds from our room. So when we got back to the resort at night after a full day at the parks and our feet were hurting, it didn't take long at all to get to bed. It was worth not having the "view" to get to the room so quickly at night.

I was in love with POR when I stayed there in 2007...then the following year I tried POFQ and its kind of hard to stay anywhere else now since staying there. The size difference is huge... POFQ is so quiet and no matter where your room is you will be close to everything. The layout and grounds are beautiful at both resorts, but I much prefer POFQ...it has this charm to it that POR doesn't have in a way and what I mean is the cobblestone streets throughout the resort. It feels like you are really in New Orleans. When we got off the DME bus we were greeted by a man and he gave each of us a pair of mardi gras beads. It was so nice. POR is beautiful also, dont get me wrong...but I just love POFQ so much more, I have to say! The boatride to DTD is a great perk too...if you are a DTD lover like me. I do feel that the giftshop at POR is much better and bigger than POFQ. You will love either resort.

You'll love Riverside, but FQ is just a short boat ride away, so you can go visit it and scout it our for next time, and you'll be allowed to use their pool if you want to.

Don't write off Boatwright's. The food was good there.

Boatwrights is a verrrry good restaurant...but sadly they don't serve breakfast anymore. I really don't know why they did that.

If I'm looking at the menus right you can only get beignets at POFQ, right?

You will definitely enjoy your stay at Riverside! I'd suggest putting in a room request in a certain building that way you can shorten your walk especially if that's one of your biggest concerns. Room requests aren't guaranteed, but we've been lucky enough that ours have always been granted

Also like to mention to spend any evening listening to Piano Man Bob! Great fun, highly entertaining and perfect way to end a day after being in the parks!
