Most of the deluxe resorts have really horrible bus transportation, including BC and YC. They make up for it by proximity to the park - for instance, being able to walk to Epcot from BC/YC/BW or the monorail resorts. At BC you can also walk or take a boat to DHS, though the boat tends to be pretty slow. Surprisingly, I left BC right as a boat was pulling away from the dock and I still beat it walking to DHS.
As for the others POR and CBR are iffy, but the other moderates and values all tend to be okay on transportation. The Disney transportation is always going to be crowded at every resort during peak times, but the values and moderates, except the 2 I mentioned, overall aren't too bad.

I wouldn't say the deluxes have horrible transportation. I've never had a hard time getting a bus and only occasionally had to stand on a bus due to crowding. That's not horrible. I really don't love taking the buses, but I think they get a bad rap sometimes. Yes, occasionally, there is that really unusually long seeming wait for a bus, but overall not bad.
My favorite resort is the Grand Floridian. For the most part, I only need to bus for Downtown Disney, water parks, AK, and DHS (unless I split the day at DHS with Epcot and boat over from Epcot, which I often do). Most of my time is spent at Epcot or MK, so not a problem. When I do use the buses, I love the GF's bus stop area. It's a pleasant place to wait. But I can't say the resort has great transportation because the monorail is frequently crowded by the time it hits GF and the buses are shared, so not always seats for GF people. Considering it is the flagship resort, I think Disney could do better for GF-- but I'm not a snob or expecting more than anyone else gets, so not a big deal.
The best bus experience I've had was actually at POP. I think they do a pretty great job with the buses there, even though the lines can get long and I've had to wait for more than one bus when the first one fills up before my turn to board (which I've never had to do at a deluxe resort).
My Beach Club stay was, yes, probably my worst experience with buses, and it did cut down on my MK visits on that trip. I spent more time at DHS and Epcot instead, due to the ease of walking or boating right on over. Which is nice. So that makes it worth some less than stellar bus service.

Those issues weren't the problem I've had at the deluxes - it's that they often share numerous resorts - like sometimes WL, Poly, GF, and Ft Wilderness are all on the same bus route. Or Swan/Dolphin/Boardwalk/YC/BC are all on the same route so it can take forever to get some place.

i never seem to have a problem at the all star resorts...but i usually stay at music...if sports buses arent full they stop there...music buses not full might stop at movies...but i think the turnover is worth it...in the mornings
coming back in the evenings the buses go to all 3 resorts and can be annoying...but it works for me

I thought the service at CBR wasn't bad except that they did not take the shortest, most direct route to MK.
I thought the best bus service ever was at Coronado Springs - they were hardly ever crowded except maybe at park closing. I also thought service at Poly was decent - mostly because of the proximity to the TTC which allowed for the most options with buses, boats, and monorails.
I always thought the All-Stars were the worst simply because they were the farthest away and most crowded when we've been there.

When I stayed at POFQ it never stopped at riverside. That's why I loved it and why I stayed there.

I think everyone has different experiences, maybe because of the time of year and how crowded/not crowded it is. I usually go early oct. I enjoyed the bus service at CBR seemed like there was always a bus coming. Also with so many bus stops at the resort it means there is usually one near your room. The worst time I had was ASM the buses were slow in coming shared with the other 2 resorts and only one bus stop at the front of the resort. A real pain if you are tired at the end of the day and have to walk all the way to the back. Also at CBR while I did enjoy a morning walk around the grounds (Very pretty) if I didn't feel like walking up to the front for the restaurants I could take the resort shuttle or almost any bus that came by the stop because most of them stopped at the front.
Three years in Connecticut and loving it
Next trip in Jan 2017 I hope!

Stay at the GF and really never have a problem except when we leave HS. Never enough busses for any hotel. Had big problem on monorail leaving Epcot 2 years ago as a young CM tried to and did over pack the monorail on the way out. People fell in car on top of each other and when it was reported nothing became of it. It was the worse I ever seen in over 35 years going to WDW.

IMO any monorail resort. Easy to MK and EP.

We love the Disney transportation! Sure, sometimes we have had to wait...and wait...and wait, BUT it's free, you don't have to worry about parking your car or how to even find the park (which I seem to have an issue with for some reason) and you can park your car when you get there and not get in it again until time to go. What's not to love? We have stayed at several different resorts and some the service is better (less stops) than others...but, it's all good.

....we had dinner at the Polynesian once and needed to take a bus from there to another park or downtown Disney (can't recall) ....and we waited FOREVER. I suppose that if you are a monorail resort ....that the buses are less frequent .....but I am so used to having a bus come every 10 minutes or so (at POP) that I was quite taken aback by that.

We like POP and CSR because they do not share with other resorts.

Well, yeah, it would be lovely if they cut bus routes down a bit. Especially during busy times. I don't mind shared buses but it can get out of hand with the number of resorts sharing.

Stayed at the Poly hated the bus transportation. Feklt it was slow and did not come as much as it shoudl for the price payed at those resorts. i felt POR was much better most of the time but did have too wait on occasion

Honestly, I had more problems with the buses at POR than anywhere else I stayed. I would rather be deluxe and share with four other resorts than to make that endless loop around the same resort with all the various stops. And then we had to go to the main bus stop to catch a bus with seats or standing room available. We had to wait for two, sometimes three buses, before there was room for us all. This was years ago, but it turned us off moderate resorts and we haven't been back. I'm sure it's better now. It has to be.

I usually stay at a deluxe resort and have never had any issues with the buses. I go to WDW twice a year on average, and the last time I remember even having to stand on a bus was 3 years ago, (but I tend to go to WDW during low seasons). Lately I have been staying at AKL, that resort does not share a bus route with any other resort, so that is nice. My other go-to resort is GF, I don't have to take the bus as often at that resort though. It does share a bus route with other resorts, (the resort it shares with tends to change), but I always get a seat on the bus, I don't remember ever having to stand on a bus when staying at GF.

Last year was the first time using the bus system and at times, I know I things would have been much quicker if I had a car (which I will have this trip). We stayed at WL and for the most part, the buses were fine and the time of year we went, there was hardly anyone on them. The only real complaint about the buses was one driver we had thought she was on a speedway. She would really step on the gas going around corners, etc. Scared the heck out of us!!!!
-
So how long does it typically take to get to MK or AKL including wait time and bus trip? Would it be faster to walk through Epcot to the monorail and go to MK that way?

The busses at AKL are not bad at all. At least in my opinion. They do not share with another resort which is a plus. When we stayed at POFQ, it shared busses with POR. I found it very annoying and haven't stayed there since. And yes, it may take a little longer to get to MK from AKL, not sharing busses with other resorts makes up for the time!!
