20 or 21
I know it's a long way off but I like having something to look forward to. Wanting to do a family trip probably in January with our family and 4 other related families. Trying to decide if 2020 or 2021 would be better. Some thoughts I have is that 2020 might be too soon after new Star Wars land opens and 2021 is the 50th anniversary. Please give some pros and cons to each to help us decide.
2008 - Anniversary trip: Port Orleans Riverside
2005 - Honeymoon trip: Port Orleans Riverside
2015 - Kids 1st Visit: Caribbean Beach

I would choose the 50th, just because it is a cool anniversary and they may be doing special things.

I wouldn't expect the 50th celebration in January of 2021. They will probably begin the celebration around or on October 1 and the celebration will continue into 2022.

WDW has pretty much always started their anniversary celebrations on Oct 1, since that's the opening day for both MK and Epcot. The only anniversary that was different was 2001. An October celebration was planned for the 30th, but the events of 9/11 delayed it until December, and then it was pretty subdued.
Anniversary celebrations tend to start on October 1 and last 15 months or so. Disneyland's 50th lasted more than 18 months.
I wouldn't expect WDW's 50th to be anything different. If you plan to go in January, you might want to think about January of 2022. The celebration will still be going on.
My personal hope is that they do something akin to the Year of a Million Dreams again for the 50th.
Ian could have another night in the Castle!

Next up: WDW - May 9 - 16, 2020 at Riviera!
Dec 5 - 16, 2020 at Poly

So crowd wise since the anniversary won't start until later in 2021, would it be better to go then as it will be over a year after the Star Wars land opening and before the anniversary?
