Planning our first trip to DL and attending D23 Expo 2017 for the first time too. Has anyone ever stayed at Red Lion Hotel? I am trying to find a place that is close by and within walking distance to both locations.
Any other places you could suggest would be great.

I stayed there in April 2015 when I went to the star wars celebration at that convention center. I would recommend it - nice place and about equidistant between the convention center and Disneyland.
The rate was reasonable - note there is an extra daily fee if you have a car, but you can park there all day on checkout day.
I would stay there again!
There is a brand new Hyatt House and a newish Springhill Suites both at the corner of Harbor and Katella. These are great options about a block from the Convention Center and about a block in the opposite direction to Disneyland.
