I mean, the preview was cute and everything but I can't imagine how a ride based on this premise would work and not be TOO similar to Cat in the Hat (i.e. slow ride through different rooms where animals are engaged in shenanigans!)

Honestly, I thought it was a weird rumor too, especially since, as you stated, the movie does not come out til next summer... And to have a 2017 RUMORED opening date? That is a quick turn around... I mean, I know Universal builds fast, but what if the movie is a flop? Then would they still build SLOP?

Maybe they think it will be a huge hit, and are trying to prevent the mistake Disney made with Frozen.
Worse case scenario if they have the ride systems designed and the movie flops, they can always re-purpose those designs to something else before they start construction.

Though, from the sounds of the attraction, the attraction could be a hit despite the movie... But I think the movie will do just fine...
