Im planning my first DL trip! Totally not sure when to go. Well be there for one week so im thinking that should be planning of time. I have all the knowlwdge of wdw seeing I live in florida. My biggest concern is ride closures for rehab. Over here they seem to do alot jan-april. Do they do the same over in Cali?
If i had to pick when ill be going, itd be in September or October. Or February/march. How are those months? Need opinions on best times please!!!

We have been to DL a few times (June, July & September). We loved ALL the times we went. The crowds are nothing like WDW. The weather was great during the months we were there. No humidity. No pop up rain showers. No extremely hot days (like in WDW). If I had to pick a month it would, for me, September. The days were in the 70's and the evenings got into the low 50's the year we went.
When we (myself, husband & daughter) go we allow 3 days. One day for each park and the 3rd day we split the day between the 2 parks.
Don't know about rehab schedules. Perhaps someone can come along and answer that one for you.
Have a great time. My favorite rides out there are Pirates of the Caribbean & Indiana Jones!
See if you can get reservations at the Blue Bayou!
Have fun:thumbsup:

Early September the Hanuted Mansion will be closed to put the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay up. I'd suggest sometime in October. The Haunted Mansion will be up again with the overlay and Space Mountain will have their Ghost Gallaxy overlay going for the holiday. Additionally the park will be decorated for Halloween. I really like DL during Halloween time. The weather will be really nice as well and I think there would be less rides closed than earlier in the year. Keep in mind that the parks are usually busier on weekends than weekdays as there are a lot of locals that go. A week is plenty of time to see everything, though.

Thanks! Never considered june or july. But i think im sold on the space mountain being done up for halloween. Awesome!

I enjoy going in September, HOWEVER, there tend to be quite a few refurbishments after the summer months and leading up to Halloween Time. October will see fewer refurbishments as a general rule. February seems to have quite a few refurbishments going on. March may have fewer refurbs, but crowds are usually picking up a bit as different school districts begin their spring break rotations.
I love NBC Haunted Mansion, both inside and out. Others feel they've missed out if they don't see the original version. It is definitely just a matter of preference. It is usually up for about four months - mid September to early January. I'm not a big Ghost Galaxy fan, but I know others look forward to it. Same ride as Space Mtn, different atmosphere.
Any of your mentioned months may have scaled back entertainment schedules - especially September. Fireworks may be weekends only and Fantasmic! may be down. Disneyland parade may have only one run each day rather than two. Summer and Christmastime months bring the most entertainment for your buck.
You could hit some hot, dry weather in October. Or you could need a sweatshirt - it's a hard month to judge weather-wise. February and March could be the months when rain is most likely.

Just got done reading this and was wondering what the Parks are like the first week of December? We are going for a few days during that first week, the 2nd through the 5th, something like that. We have been in September and October and during the summer but have never been at this time and was wondering what the crowds are like :mickey:

My experience = The first two weeks of December have fairly manageable crowds, for the most part. The things you need to be aware of are . . .
- The first weekend of December generally features the Candlelight Ceremony and Processional. This will bring heavier crowds for that weekend.
[LIST=2] Weekday afternoons and evenings during the first two weeks of the month may feel more crowded than the morning and early afternoon hours as local Annual Passholders scramble to experience as much holiday fun as they can before many of the passes are blocked out for the last 10-15 days of the month.
If you want to enjoy the holiday experience this is probably the best time to go, other than the week preceding Thanksgiving week, for the least amount of crowds. From approximately December 20 - January 5 the crowds are crazy, in my experience.

Do they close Small World for the overlay in September too?

it's a small world does not close until around the 20th of October. It usually reopens, decked out for the Holidays (inside and out), around the 10th of November.

Thanks, Linda. I missed it's a small world on my last 2 trips and want to make sure it's open on my next one (Fall 2015). I first saw it at the World's Fair!!:mickey:
Well you never know with refurbishments! But what I said has been the usual pattern. Hope you get to enjoy it in 2015.
