Any been by themselves lately? I'm really struggling because I'd like to take a 4-5 day trip this Spring (May-ish) but DBF just flat out doesn't want to go. I'm considering going alone, although it's just so darn expensive for just one. Part of going alone sounds actually pretty nice but then part of it sounds a little depressing...

Why not go alone? I've never done a completely solo trip but have ended up solo in the parks from time to time. It's really nice to be able to go to the attractions you want to do without needing to consider what anyone else wants to do. You can also easily take advantage of the single rider lines.

I love going alone! It is a very different experience. In some ways it allows you to immerse yourself even more because it is all about you. What you want, when you want it. Want to change plans spur of the moment? No problem because you do not need to convince anyone of anything...just do it. Meals are easy when you do quick service.
The only time I felt lonely was late at night getting into bed. Its always family time but hey, your in control of the tv for once!
Just go and enjoy!

I am actually going to WDW by myself in October. I think that it will be a great trip for me to be able to do things at my pace!! Don't be discouraged go on and do it by yourself and enjoy!!!:mickey::cloud9:

I do enjoy solo trips but I also struggle with dining alone at TS restaurants. I know many can do this without a hitch, but it's a bit awkward for me. If I have my iPad with me, I feel less inhibited.
That aside, I LOVE being on MY schedule and traveling at my own pace. It's refreshing to come and go as I please, on my own whim. :mickey:

I do think parts of it seem appealing, I agree with the poster who mentioned eating at sit down places alone, but bars and such sometimes have good food service as well.
Now if I could only figure out how to go and only pay for one person instead of it seeming like 2?!

No siblings, cousins or friends that would want to go? Heck, go with your parents...maybe they'll treat for dinner!

I was considering if for this fall to go to the Night Of Joy event, was actually embracing the idea. I love taking photos, so I figured it would be perfect just to be going at my own pace.
Have since decided against, only because of budget. Stick with QS meals, or bar seating where a full menu is available. Single rider lines. Evening activities such as movies by the pool, sounded like a great relaxing time to me

Would renting DVC points be cheaper?

I love being in Disney World alone. I love going with my family and with my best friend also but going alone is a whole different experience. I got to stop and spend time actually looking at the carvings in the tree of life. I can stop and watch the street shows if I want to without anyone getting bored. I also get to linger in all the shops in Epcot and smell each perfume. There's nothing wrong with "me" time.
I don't feel awkward at table service restaurants. I find the staff to be more attentive and talkative when I am by myself. It makes for some very interesting conversations.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

DITTO!!!!The only things I would add:
Talking to other guests is enjoyable. I've met many interesting people over the years.
Being able to relax at your resort whenever you prefer.
Pick a bench in your favorite theme park, relax with a treat, and people-watch.
Listen to the sounds all around and enjoy the solitude.Solo meals are great opportunities to meet other guests. 50s Prime Time is the perfect TS for solo dining. On one trip, everyone in our dining room jumped into the fun as we continued interacting with our server.
Meeting other guests while walking around a park, waiting for a parade or fireworks, or in a standby line, are other great ways to meet people. I can go on and on, but I think you get the message.
My only regret is - I'm no longer able to go to WDW on solo trips, due to pesky health issues. But, on the bright side, I can still travel with friends and/or family.

Just wanted to update that I was actually able to convince a very stubborn 53 year old DBF to come with me for a Fall trip. We were lucky (from what I have heard and read) to snag free dining starting Oct. 25th at WL. Oddly now that I've made ADRs and started talking about it he actually seems mildly excited ;)

Janet, we are missing each other by a week. My sister and I (and hopefully our Mom) arrive November 1.

I did a solo trip in 2010 and enjoyed it. I missed my family, but still had a great time.
My wife hates Disney and wont have anything to do with it. I have another solo trip planned for Nov 2016.
I say go and enjoy the vacation!
Edit: I see you are no longer going alone. Glad you convinced him to go with you.
