New Doors Open for Monsters and Muppets at Hollywood Studios
Get ready to open the door because Mike and Sulley are coming to town!
That’s right, humans will be able to enter the world of Monsters, Inc. when it is added to the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Building off the exciting announcements from last summer’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the new land will include the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show.
To make way for the monsters, the Grand Avenue area will begin a phase closing in May, with the last day to dine at Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano on May 10. Following that, Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close, with the last day to experience both locations on June 7. But, the Muppet foolishness doesn’t stop there — Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and more of their friends will be moving right along to Sunset Boulevard! The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!

We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!
In the meantime, there’s still enough time to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch a glorious three-hour finale with Muppet*Vision 3D again before their final curtain calls.
As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
No doubt there are a lot of new adventures planned for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we’ll continue to share more details. For now, stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more Monsters and Muppets updates!
We said our (tearful) goodbye to RnRc over our January 2025 trip not expecting to ever see it again. It just breaks my heart to see Aerosmith be stripped away. My second-born’s middle name is Tyler as an homage to my wife & I’s love of Aerosmith & RnRc! I loved Muppets growing up but just can’t get excited about them taking over a thrill ride. Of course in the family we now joke that my son will have to change his middle name to Gonzo now.
We also said our goodbye to Muppet*Vision and, well, lets just say there were a lot fewer tears lol. If that theater was just recently refurbished then they did an awful job. The video clarity was definitely from the 90s and none of the water effects worked. While my recent visit at PhilharMagic was a PACKED theater, their were probably only 10 people in our Muppets theater (and it was POURING rain so the theater was a good place to hide). I thought to myself how it was obvious Muppets were fading away in a way that I just cannot envision them being a success at RnRc.
It seems that the Muppets are trying to make a comeback. They are always at times down but never really out!
I too would prefer RnRc stay with the Aerosmith theme. It is a great ride and experience. I am not wild about the muppets theme going to RnRc. I always enjoyed Muppetvision 3D and would rather they just relocate it and keep them in a show rather than throwing them into one of the most popular thrill rides.
Agree 100%
I love The Muppets and am glad to see they are not being lost altogether, but I wish they could keep MuppetVision somehow. Maybe move it into the Lightning McQueen spot so they could be together – The RnRC ‘redo’ and MuppetVision 3d would make a great pair and be the keystone for a new “MuppetLand"
I agree 100% There just seems like it would be kinda straight-forward to open in the old cars show area. I hate losing them, and a family friendly attraction at DHS. A whole new Muppets area for the win!
