Playing around with the idea of booking a cabin at Fort Wilderness next February. Any reviews Etc.
Wondering how far it is from the parks. Also how large is the resort. We will be traveling with 3 kids, one of whom is Autistic.

We haven't stayed in the cabins in quite a long time but have greatly enjoyed our stays when we did.
Fort Wilderness is a very spread out resort. Google for a map of Fort Wilderness and you'll get an idea of the size. There is a quiet pool in the area of the cabins but the main pool would be a bus (or golf cart) ride away.
Unless you are driving to the parks (You can park your car right in front of your cabin - two steps from your door), you will need to take two forms of transportation to get to any park - an internal bus which you pick up at the end of your cabin loop and then transfer to a park bus or the boat to Magic Kingdom.
Each cabin stands alone so is not attached by a wall to any other. That means no-one can be bumping or clanging next door to you or above your head. You will also have a full kitchen. The cabins are not hugely spacious but there is a separate bedroom in the back.

We love the cabins and have heard they were recently renovated as well. I recommend renting a golf cart (either on or off property) in order to make the experience a little more fun (it sure helps with the getting around as well.) We like loop 2200 (I think that's it) and you can walk to the quiet pool which might be better for your Autistic child than the louder party pool. We love having a full kitchen as well. But my very favorite part is being able to park your car right outside your door (in case you'd like to drive to some of the farther away parks.) No more long walks to or from the car at the end of a long day.
