Can you put in your room requests when checking in online? Why is it better to check in online as soon as you can?

Your room request needs to be noted on your reservation if you have a specific room. However, online check in does allow you to request a specific building or floor or a general option of "near transportation" or "near lobby." The main benefits of online check-in are 1.) You don't have the stand at the counter and give the CM all your info. You just walk up, get your packet and go and 2.) Higher chance your room will be ready upon arrival if you arrive before 3 pm. There's a place to check your anticipated arrival time and you can even indicate you care more about having your room ready at a specific time than your other room requests.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but does this mean that an actual person is looking at your request and not just a computer?

Yes, there is someone who is in charge of room assignments and works through the requests.
