We're going to WDW the end of February -- we're(just my husband and me -- no kids) staying on property but we are not doing the dining plan. I'm wondering if it's okay to order from the childrens menu -- sometimes the adult menu has too much food and the children's menu offers a better portion. Has anyone done this?

Yes. There have been several threads about this, and there is rarely an issue. Of course it's never ok at buffets.

I'm surprised that they let you - but I'd also say that there are a lot of times you won't want to. It isn't so much the portion size as the fact that most restaurants have cruddy kids menus. Even my kids got sick of them pretty quick - same tired, boring offerings everywhere we went. The children's choices at the "expensive" restaurants like Cali Grill are really good, though!
Yes, at QS locations you can get away with ordering children menu options and paying for the children price. From what I've heard, if you want something from the children's menu at a TS, you can request it and they prepare it in an adult portion and of course charge adult price.
