Pretty sure I'm not supposed to say a link but I use a site that does alerts for dining reservations. Once they find a spot for you, they send an email and once you get the email, you click on it. 2 times I immediately clicked on the email to grab the res. Both times, the time was gone. If anyone knows what site I'm talking about, and can help me by telling me what I'm doing wrong I would appreciate it!

You're not doing anything wrong. They send the notification to everyone and it just depends who nabs it first. Even just a few seconds of faster internet can make the difference.
I'm sorry, it is so frustrating hoping for what you want, I do find that closer to the day spots tend to open up as people finalize their plans.
