How's the food and experience at San Angel Inn? We've always thought about trying it but weren't sure if it would be better than the other possible places to eat. There will be 8 of us: two sets of parents with 4 kids ages 18, 12,12, and 8.
Thanks!
I would recommend La Hacienda de San Angel over the Inn. Food is better. San Angel Inn is mediocre at best.

While San Angel has gotten mixed reviews, we've enjoyed it every time we've dined at this spot. We've only been to La Hacienda once but thoroughly enjoyed our meal there.

We also thought the food at La Hacienda was better than at San Angel Inn. We really have no desire to eat at San Angel again.

We've only been to La Hacienda but loved the food and the overall dining experience. Enjoy!

My family likes San Angel mostly for the atmosphere. The food is fine, but nothing spectacular. The outdoor market atmosphere with the view of the volcano is classic Disney to me though and I have great childhood memories of dining there so it's still a favorite.

I personally felt it was typical Mexican fare. I feel it is worth trying once and the atmosphere is incredible. However, I don't think it's one of those restaurants worth going to every trip.

I think everyone should dine at he San Angel Inn at least once--the theming is classic. I've never had a bad meal there; the worst that I can say is that the tables are too close together and the service is only average. But I still love it!

I agree with, Beth. The food is fine. I've never had a problem there but get a table near where the boat goes by and enjoy the atmosphere. That's the main reason I book a meal there.

I'm with Beth! I love the atmosphere, though tables are too close. And I've never had a bad meal there, though I have had some better than others. As far as the preference for Hacienda, I don't get it. The food was pretty much the same but the atmosphere is cafeteria like. No thanks.

The atmosphere is great but the food is not good at all. I love going in to ride the ride and kinda look around but to eat, never again .... and we gave them two chances with both times failing epically !!

We actually had a fantastic meal there last time however I am thinking maybe it was better than average as it was a holiday week. I keep hearing it is rather hit and miss. We did have an awesome table right next the iron fence/water and everyone loved their meals. As this was our only time eating there I cannot say that this is the norm. Nor am I actually willing to eat here again for quite a while on the off chance my next meal will not live up to the memories of the last meal.

I had never tried San Angel because of poor reviews but then I had a friend insist I try it and took me there. The main course was pretty good but the soup was amazing. I think I'd go back and just order the soup and enjoy the atmosphere.
Thank you everyone! We are still considering it, though it sounds like we should probably try something higher on our wish list, since it's just so so. Thanks for the feedback!
