If the meal costs $ 150.00 and the 18% is added, the new cost is $ 177.00. With TIW, is the $150.00 discounted to $ 120.00 and the new 18% is added in or is the original gratuity added back in making it now $ 147.00. Thus saving a net $30.00.

The 18% gratuity is added on the original bill. Then the 20% is taken off.

Just to be clear, the 18% gratuity is calculated on the original amount. The 20% is then deducted from the original amount and the gratuity added back on.

Your latter scenario is the correct one. The final amount will be $147.00.
