I have a Sept 2016 cruise on the Disney Dream.

I have read you can elect to eat at Cabanas for dinner instead of doing the rotational dining. Has anyone done this? Can you go at anytime (when open of course)? Reservations needed? Tipping? Food Selection (compared to rotational dining or lunch buffet at Cabanas)? Does the menu change each day? Any additional information would be helpful

Thanks!

We have done it often! I really do enjoy it.

No reservations needed, just walk in and they will seat you.

Food Selection varies, but seems to be a mix of various items from the main dining rooms that night, but I always get the rib eye steak that they have nightly. (is really good)

We enjoy it because it seems slower paced, less hectic and almost like a private dining experience

The staff is actually training so you get a little more TLC, I think, and sometimes a few errors. You do not need to tip, but we always leave a one on the table since I am never sure if they are in the tip pool or not.

You don't need to tip extra. We did it once and the food was freshly cooked to order, which was nice, but the service was SLOW...it took longer than the main dining room. Items were like one choice from each rotational menu for that night.

I just heard on a podcast that Cabanas dinner was NOT available on departure night nor the last night of the cruise. Can anyone confirm this? Or have a different experience?

yes this is true on our 2nd 3 day cruise we decided to opt out of rotational dining, and Cabanas was only available 1 night so the other 2 we just ate at the quick service,
