That's correct. We own at SSR and have stayed at BLT, AKL and BWV so far other than SSR. So, if it's not a real busy time you can usually get into most resorts at 7 months.

I'm not sure what the confusion is, but it does seem to tie people up. Maybe it's the marketing materials. DVC planning has always even pretty cut and dry, the hard part for us isn't the when and where. We're always planning out two three years ahead so its working out the what ifs.

If we do one week here, we'll have this many points and can only do this the next year, OR if we stay here we can do all this.

100 at VB -- resale
110 at SSR -- resale
100 BWV -- direct because after watching for months there were no resale contracts available with our use year

Was waitlisted for 75 points at the Beach Club - which came through last month. Same Use Year which was help.

Just dipped our toes in last Fall with 160 resale points at SSR. We figured it's enough to get us there every other year, but maybe want to buy another 50 or so more in case the family grows.

Being a newbie I know you should buy with the same use year, but buying same month on two resorts gives you two 7 month windows?

I think someone also told me booking with separate use years causes separate reservations? As an example let's say you wanted to stay somewhere for a week on 270 points, but you only had 200 points on an April use year and 100 points on an August use year that you'd actually have to make separate reservations to accommodate this?

There are definitely some complications if you have different use-year contracts - including having to make separate reservations in certain situations.

Technically, buying the same use-year on two resorts actually gives you two 11-month windows to make reservations based on your points for a particular resort. So any points you have for resort 1, you can use to reserve 11 months out at that resort. Any points you have for resort 2, you can use to reserve 11 months out there.

The 7-month window is open for any and all points you might have, for any DVC resort.

We bought 210 points at BLT direct from Disney back in 2009. That's enough for our needs right now.

Bought:
200 OKW via resale in 2006 (June UY)
75 HHI via resale in 2012 (Aug UY)
100 AKV via resale in 2013 (Aug UY. But just sold them, waiting for closing)
50 HHI via resale in 2013 (Aug UY)
55 BWV via direct in 2014 (June UY)
25 BWV via direct in 2014 (Aug UY)

So, had 505 and now will have 405. AKV is our fave but we found we could book it with our OKW points and we are making a profit to sell the AKV. I was wanting 45 more BWV for 450 total but we just had a NOT-great stay at BWV so I am rethinking. I had add-on-itis (as you can see above) but my kids are all running off to college now and I think we can manage with 405. It ending in 5 really bugs me though. But I have 3 kids and would like total divisible by 3 so they can use them down the road (405 is, so we're good I suppose).

We have used our OKW at all the east coast DVC resorts except the 2 new (VGF and PBV, but we haven't tried to book those yet). Spring break is somewhat busy but not impossible to get those at the 7 month mark. I actually looked up the week leading up to Easter 2016 (last weekend I looked it up so it was day of the 7 month window) and most everything was available except the tough to get stuff like OKW 3BR GV in HH section and AKV club level...etc.
