Hello!
I'm looking into renting points for the first time and I'm a little lost on how it affects the rest of my planning. Do I buy tickets separately, can I link them to my Disney app? Does anyone know a place that I can find more information to learn all the in and outs?

I would look in the DVC thread for info on how it works overall. You would need to purchase tickets separately as they are not part of 'renting points.' Any ticket(s) you purchase can, and should, go on your MDE app/page. You will need to link the code on the ticket(s) to your account through the app/page.

We rented points a couple of years ago, and it was excellent to save a fair bit of money! The only real "catch" is that means you have to buy everything separately, no packages ... but that's not too hard at all.
We purchased tickets from Disney, and they appeared in my MDE account, and you can order them from anywhere and add them into the account.
The points are seldom refundable, so be sure your plans are as firm as they can be, and think about taking out extra travel insurance if you're concerned.

And I didn't even know that you can buy tickets for attractions separately. This is much more interesting than taking different ticket packages and going to entertainment that is less interesting. On our next trip, we will definitely try to buy tickets only for the entertainment we are interested in. Thank you!

You can buy an admission ticket that gets you a certain number of days in the parks, and can add options for park hopping, water parks, etc., but you can't buy separate tickets for individual attractions in a park. Currently, you also have to reserve a Disney Park Pass for the park you want to start your day at, but must purchase an admission ticket before reserving a Disney Park Pass. Fastpasses (if they come back) simply shorten your wait for a few attraction per day.

I think I may have caused the confusion, when I said "buy everything separately". I meant that you can't make a "Disney package", so you have to pay for the hotel, the theme park tickets separately, and adding the dining plan is always an additional cost (when/if it is available). You can't buy specific attraction passes, you get a ticket for the park for the day (or a number of days).
