INTERCOT Runs to Fight Thyroid Cancer & Raises $1000!
Monrovia, MD, March 30, 2015 -- Last year INTERCOT.com’s founder John Yaglenski announced he had Thyroid Cancer. This came as quite a shock as he had no symptoms whatsoever. After months of tests, plenty of scary moments, surgery to remove his thyroid and follow-up care, we’re happy to say John is doing well.
Following treatment, he vowed to rally the INTERCOT Community to help fight this disease and remind everyone to "Get a Neck Check!" Thyroid cancer is the fastest increasing cancer in both men and women.
As part of the effort to raise funds and awareness, INTERCOT asked its community of Disney fans to donate $10 or more to the cause, and in return they would get a #runICOT Awareness Band (we still have a few left available at http://www.intercot.com/shop/donate/band.asp ). The site also sold shirts for participants in the #runICOT Marathon Weekend color coordinated to the 3 colors of Thyroid Cancer awareness – Teal, Purple and Pink. 100% of sales proceeds benefited ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association, Inc.
This year’s #runICOT event was a huge success and the final tally is in. INTERCOT.com raised a total of $941.31, a number that sounded a little Goofy (yes, a Disney pun.) So, John (as he promised he would in the INTERCOT Insider Podcast) kicked in the final share to bring the total to an even $1000 donation to ThyCa.
At this point, there’s only one thing left to ask. ARE YOU IN FOR #runICOT 2016? We do it all over again in January during Marathon Weekend. Details coming soon.
John and INTERCOT wish to express a huge thank you to everyone who donated. You are the reason INTERCOT.com remains the most caring and friendly Disney community on the internet.
