Does anyone know if the newer pins that have the serial numbers (or number stamps, since some numbers are the same for different pins) are being made into scrappers?

I would assume it's just a matter of time before the China factories start adding these numbers to their scrappers or are these numbers specifically designed to only be used by official Disney Pin factories?

Thanks!

I would assume that eventually, the factories will catch on, and if it makes financial sense, they will start adding them.

Of course, a huge challenge is that Disney CM's don't really check (or care), so it is hard keeping the scrappers out of the "pin pool".

Oh, that's for sure. It's about 40/60 that I receive a scrapper from a CM, with 60 being on the side of the scrapper. I usually ask now if I can look at the pin first before trading when dealing with CMs at pin boards. They usually don't mind.

They probably don't know the difference. Just like allot of products that come out of China, the official stuff and the counterfeit stuff is being made by the same people. Heck the average Disney pin collector probably does not know there is such a thing as a scrapper. They just know that they can get pins cheap on ebay.

And then there are those people who intentionally buy scrappers on Ebay intending to trade them for genuine pins, Pirates just love Ebay!

That too, but how well does it work? Seems to be more scrappers in trade today then genuine pins.

Cast members know there are scrappers. It wouldn't take long to figure it out.

I got a scrapper at a local pin trading event at our library. I noticed it when I pinned it on. The difference with this one was obvious. I didn't say anything since I traded with a young girl. Oh well.

Some people throw away the scrappers so they aren't continuously circulated.

That's what upsets me. Many people buy them knowing they are scrappers just to trade them in the parks thereby depleting the authentic pins circulating within the parks. I look at some of these pirate Ebay sellers and it states, "10,000" sold (x 100 pins)!!! Sheesh!!!!
