It has been internally announced that the American Film Institute Showcase and AFI Showcase Shop will have their final day of operation on August 17, 2014. The exhibit and adjoining store are located in the Backlot section of Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Collectible merchandise from Sid Cahuenga's One of a Kind store was displaced to the AFI Showcase Shop in Late November 2013. The impact of this closure on future offerings of this merchandise has not been announced.

A replacement for the space has also not yet been announced.

Its a shame that the showcase is closed but honestly the last 2 exhibits i saw were so dark its hard to read the plaques and get good photos.

Shoot! We generally enjoyed the exhibits, and I always worry (just a bit) when a space becomes empty (even for a bit).

I'll be honest, although the exhibits they had in there were definitely cool, we usually breeze through. I always found it to be very crowded and hard to concentrate on the displays.

It is too bad that it is closing. However, if an exhibit was one we had already seen (and they didn't change often), we would generally just walk through and out the other side).

I'm disappointed. I really was enjoying the most recent display that was there. Really loved the Sound of Music display and the Superman cape! I trust that it is for something bigger and better to come Smile

Bummer. To me, this was one of the last pieces that gave the park a real "glimpse inside the world of movies", fitting with the original themes of MGM/Hollywood Studios. I thought it continued the idea of the Great Movie ride with more memorabilia. I suppose the Backlot is next on the chopping block.

Hopefully, this will make way for Star Wars?
