According to the Walt Disney World website, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom is scheduled for an extended refurbishment beginning January 6, 2025.

Guests may enjoy their last ride on January 5.

The revamped attraction is anticipated to reopen in 2026 with various improvements.

Specific details remain unavailable at this time,  but speculation is that some of this work is tied to the announced Villains Land expansion.

There is also a rumor that explosive special effects will be added, and a complete track removal and replacement. This ride needs a smoother track.

:( :( :(  I just love BTMR and would really miss it if I were there and it was down.  It is one of a very few queues I don't mind a bit waiting in (and exploring),
