Since we now book FastPasses 60 days out, what happens if we FastPass+ it for one of the open days and the refurb goes longer? Do we get another FP?

You'll get an email. Usually they offer you another fastpass from a list of their choosing. However, sometimes they randomly assign one - then you can switch it yourself.

Fortunately we plan on being there before the 11th, so we should sneak it in under the wire. Although goodness knows if it will actually be open at all while we're there.

As a fairly regular visitor to Disneyland, I don't care if the WDW version is ever closed, to be honest. I know that's neither here nor there for those who love it at WDW, but for me personally, I won't miss it. Too bad they don't have room and can't close it for a long period to make it as awesome as Disneyland.

Per my experience, while I used it during a "testing phase", there was no indication in the app when something was down during the FP+ window. An email was sent, but there was no other indication (I was at Epcot that day, and they recommended FP+ for things with no wait - which was silly anyway).. Having to check your email during the day, while at the parks, is an additional layer of guest involvement. They really must develop the ability to push this into the app (even better would be a notification sent to those using Android/iOS apps).

I agree. At least to include the bayou scene. That would make such a big difference.

My first experience with POTC was at Disneyland 40 years ago and I can STILL remember how wonderful it was! WDW Pirates is ok, but not as immersive and...yes...magical.

There is a mermaid effect towards the beginning of the ride, in the water on either side of the boat. It was subtle even when working properly, but I thought a nice addition. They also play the mermaid music from the fourth movie in that area.

At the same time, they added the mermaid skeleton on the left side right before you enter the ship scene? I think? LOL I get my Pirates mixed up between WDW and DL.

Yes, there is one at WDW. In my experience from 2013, the mermaid effect was hit-and-miss (like the mist projection) from one ride to the next. I could always hear the sounds/music, but we did not always get the visual part. I did not have the impression that was the intended effect.

That beach is getting way too crowded with skeletons. There's the one half buried, then the one with the sword in his back, then the mermaid and finally the one standing with the sword in his chest and Sea Gull on his head. Will an Elsa skeleton be joining the group? :thedolls:
