My two cents: Not a good idea to put a focal point like the hat in an area where you just come into the park. Too many people would want to take photos of it/with it and it would block people coming into the park and/or leaving it.

Keep in mind that on my previous visit, the stage in place was the one for the Frozen stuff (fireworks etc.), and that stage was fairly extensive beyond the normal hat stage. So it's not impossible that it was just so compact or inconspicuous by contrast to the Frozen stage that we didn't notice it. But I very much doubt we failed to see it if it was there. My money's on efficient set and strike crews.

Oh it's there. We were there beginning the 21st and it was still standing tall. I've got some good pics proving it.

It is to a 6yo. Why would he know that the Mann is actually a theater instead of a ride. And why would he know it's Chinese? So yes, confusing to little ones. Not that this a great argument to keep the Hat. The best argument is that it looks awesome.

SAVE THE HAT!

Why would you ask a 6 year old to meet you anywhere at WDW?

Well, I don't have kids so I'm certainly no authority, but I'm pretty sure parents are supposed to tell their kids to find the nearest Cast Member if the parents get lost.

Well, there really isn't just one "right" thing to tell kids on that topic. Kids are all different and need different strategies for stuff.

Regardless, the hat going away will not suddenly result in hoards of panicked children running around wringing their hands and yelling "Where is the Chinese theater???"

:funny:

And it wasn't like you could see the hat from every single place in the park anyway.

In re: to Scar's query, our MO was to tell our kids that if they were lost, to just stay put and to look for a cast member from where they were. We did "lose" one of our kids (long story) and a cast member found him before he even had the chance to decide what to do.

For bigger kids who know the park, meeting at a specific spot might make more sense. A 12-year-old might be more comfortable finding the meeting spot than looking for a CM.

By the time my kids were teenagers, they were more likely to try to "lose" their parents on purpose. ;)

Who wants to write the obit for the hat as it should start coming down next week?

I have just a one word obit: ADIOS!

.....I loved the hat.

.....it was a great impromptu shelter when a t-storm hit ...or when the day's sun was just a bit too strong.

....what will people do now to seek shelter... go into a store?

....OH!!! ...Wait a minute!! Now I see why it's being removed.........

But where will I go to buy a hat inside of a hat now?

I like to pretend there's a secret junkyard where the hat, the wand and the birthday cake inflatables from the 25th are all sitting and rusting like an old Las Vegas sign.

 I'm surprised that they haven't thought of that yet, especially since they would be able to charge admission.
