Cast-
Amy (me) age 44 celebrating upcoming 45th birthday
Patty (mom)-age 67-

I will do separate resort and Disney dining reviews later.

We have to use a scooter for mom due to multiple tendon replacement surgeries she can't stand or walk for a long period of time. When she wanted to stretch her legs I would ride and I know ECVs get a bad rep so I want to post some observations. We were very careful to not run into anyone but people just cut in front of you without looking. Mom hit a woman who cut right in front of her and then the woman cussed her, very uncalled for and totally her fault:mad:

Well this was a 19 hour day for us due to the party and we got a lot done thanks to FP+...we did all of Fantasyland except the mine train, ate lunch at Casey's and then finished most of Tomorrowland. Crowds this day were moderate. We browsed a few shops then headed to Ohana for our 5 o'clock ressie and changed there into our costumes. Mom was Jessie from Toy Story and I was the witch from the Great and Powerful Oz. We got back to MK around 645 and got our bags, the party was extremely crowded. We went to stitch and then staked out a spot to watch the 1st parade and Hallowishes. We got so hot we had to take off our costumes. I started feeling like I was choking and almost passed out while watching the parade and I realized the tie to my cape had gotten really tight and was cutting off my air supply. It was kind of scary and it took me a little while to recover. By this time, mom was tired and when mom gets tired she gets grouchy. I hate to admit the overtiredness and heat almost ruined this event for me and I've waited a long time to do MNSSHP. We got our second wind and ended up getting some trick or treating in before heading out around 1130. Mom was happy that I was able to redo our FP+ for the next day so we could sleep in.

Although I did enjoy MNSSHP, I do think its a bit overpriced and the weather can make a big difference. Mom wasn't impressed at all, but then again she isn't as big a Disney or Halloween fan as me. Still think the headless horsemen is awesome though:mickey:

Seems like the party was a mixed bag for you. It is hard to plan for a costume for this party as often it is just too warm to wear many costumes.

Glad you got free of the ties on your costume.

The cost of the party is something else that seems to gone up considerably in the last several years.

Nineteen hours certainly does make for a long day - glad you'll get to sleep in!!

Yes in hind sight we shouldn't have planned a full day plus the party. Can't control the weather though

I agree about the scooters (people walking in front of you), my husband has had 2 back surgeries and have rented them on and off. Sometimes its more stressful then anything, a lot of walking in front of you without looking. I know it goes both ways sometimes but its tough! Enjoying your reports!

Yes I see so much negativity towards people on scooters but consideration goes both ways. Some people would not be able to enjoy Disney without a scooter though glad mom had one

I agree with you about them. People are so intent on getting to their ride that they don't look where they are going. Then give you a dirty look when they notice you. Been there and experienced that:mad:

Busy day - with a great Ohana dinner thrown in there too!

I will certainly agree with how big a part the weather plays during the party - kind of a bummer that the event was not quite what you expected. I would also agree that the price is awful high for the few hours you are actually in the MK. Happy that I was able to attend, but I don't think I would do it every year just because of the price. Isn't the headless horseman really something?!

Glad you can sleep in tomorrow :mickey:

I know, and people make assumptions because mom looks perfectly healthy but they don't see the awful scars or know how many surgeries she's been through. She can walk for a while but then she tires out and limps. Glad someone can relate

Yes he was. I just don't tolerate heat too well, plus we over did the day. That was my fault.

Wow! What a busy day!

We always take the day off when going to MNSSHP or MVMCP. To me the parties are much more enjoyable when you are well rested and can stay through the very end. But you are right, the weather can make or break it, and that is out of your control.

I always had the same problems with my kids' strollers when they were younger. I was always super careful not to bump into anyone, but I can't even count the number of times people plowed right into the stroller then turned to give us a piece of their mind as if it were our fault. Same thing has happened to my mom when she uses a scooter.

yes and believe me on the days it was crowded it was a challenge not to run into anyone...I learned a lesson about the party if I ever do another one. I will take time off for an afternoon nap

I can definitely relate as I have both traveled with someone who used a scooter as well as I had to use one on one trip. You still certainly made the most out of a long day. Too bad the party got only mixed reviews.

Don't feel bad, neither of my parents like Disney. Growing up they took us twice out of obligation. We took a girls trip (me, my two sisters, my mother and my only niece) about 4 years ago, but she won't go again.

I had been to the Halloween Party many times and I do think that the weather does (at least for me) effect how much I enjoy the night.

Mom says she's getting too old for Disney, but she said she would go back she just doesn't like be obligated to be somewhere because when she's tired she's ready to go. Can't do that when you have things you want to do and only so much time.:(

Sorry you did not get to enjoy the MNSSHP as much as you had hoped. It is my favorite event but I have to agree with others that the weather can be a big factor in the enjoyment level. And yes, I agree the Headless Horseman is a very cool thing!
