disney trip next year and planning on 2 Universal days. Ive stayed at Hard Rock...(good location but not overwhelmed by it) and Royal Pacific. Cabana and Surfside seem a better value, other than express pass which hopefully wont need at the beginning of May..(but might be weekend days at Universal) I know Surfside is just opened, but wondering if anyone has stayed at either yet. there is going to b 3 of us probably and want separate sleeping , like 2 beds, or sleeper sofa

I have stayed at Cabana Bay in the family suites and it was very comfortable. We particularly liked the layout. We loved that there was a toilet area and shower area separated by double sinks. So we were never fighting for toileting space. The sofa bed was very comfortable. Other family recently stayed at Surfside but I haven't seen them since their return to get details but they seemed pleased.
I stayed at Cabana Bay this past August and thought it was a great value and overall a good resort. We had the room with 2 queen beds and thought the space was more then enough. For the price, it was well worth it.

I have family in Orlando so they took us to a Walmart nearby to get food supplies; water, frozen breakfast sandwiches, soda, etc. This saved us money, especially with breakfast which we ate before going into the parks. There are several places at Cabana Bay to eat and we did eat on property after a long day in the parks then went to the pool. Other days we ate at City Walk...plenty of choices and good food.

We ate at the food court and were happy with the selection, quality, and price.
And we had drinks and appetizers after a day at the parks at the grill at the bowling alley.
Plus there is a Starbucks, pool bar, and a bar in the main lobby. We got drinks at the pool bar.
Both pools were
Overall, I think it is a better value resort then any on Disney property, especially if you factor in cost.

We've stayed at Cabana Bay twice and loved it both times. It is a fairly long (though shaded) walk to the parks, but the bus service is great if your feet are sore at the end of the day. Lots to do onsite too; love the bowling alley! I think we only ate once in the food court at the resort, as we frequented City Walk restaurants going to and from the parks.
