For the first time my family has annual passes this year so there's all kinds of new things to figure out. I know that I've read on here that in order to have the annual passes linked to the magic bands for a resort stay you need to call to have them hooked up. I just called and the person I spoke with said that the annual passes were already attached to the magic bands. I have time before I need to make my fast pass selections, however I want to make sure that everything is set and ready. Am I mis-remembering that a call needed to be made to get everything set up, or was the person I spoke with wrong? We have already used the annual passes, so they're active, not vouchers. Does that makea difference?

Go to your MDE account and look under My Reservations and Tickets. You should see your AP's listed there. When your hotel is confirmed you add the reservation number into MDE under accommodations. Everything that appears on MDE is "linked" together.

I'm not an expert, but the way I think this works:
As long as you have a My Disney Experience account, you can link your account to your annual pass yourself (or to any tickets you might have purchased with days on them). It doesn't matter if you have a resort reservation or not - the pass should be recognized in your account, and if you have a magic band (or magic BANDS) linked to that account, you can use them.
The only interaction I recall needing was when we wanted the passes activated before we used them the first time, which we did at Guest Relations outside the park. I don't know of any reason to call, unless your MDE account doesn't recognize your annual passes for some reason.
Remember - the Magic Band allows you access to items in your MDE account - your passes, your FP, etc. Technically, you're not just linking the pass to the band, you're linking the account to the band - if that makes sense! I hope I didn't just make it worse for you!
Thanks everyone. The tickets and the hotel reservation are showing up, I was just confused about whether those tickets needed to be specifically linked to the hotel reservation or if it was all interlinked - which apparently it is.
