My husband and I we are going to Walt Disney World in December for 15 days. We have 10 day hopper passes. We have been told that it would be better to get a season pass when we first get there. My biggest concern is we currently don’t have to do any reservations for the parks but if we get season passes, do we have to then make reservations for the time we’re there? Also, is it really that economical to upgrade to the passes?

If you already have tickets, you should first enter a park before upgrading. You would not need reservations beyond what you may have already made. The price you paid for your tickets will be applied to the upgraded tickets.

The economics of upgrading your tickets would rely upon how many days you are going to be spending in the parks over the 365 day period the pass covers. The upgraded pass will start its 'countdown' from the first time you entered a park with your original ticket. PhotoPass and Water Parks are 'upgrades' to the AP, so beware of that. PhotoPass USED to be included in the cost of the AP, but they made it a separate 'option' somewhere around 2020.

If you are planning on visiting a park every day of your 15 day trip, the upgrade would probably be a good thing. Compare the price to a 10-day ticket w/hopper AND a 5-day ticket w/hopper along with any plans for other trips in the AP window and go from there.

Are you a Florida resident or a Disney Vacation Club member?  If you are neither, the only pass available to you is the Incredi-Pass which is an annual pass and has the highest cost associated with it.  The Sorcerer is available to Florida residents and vacation club members.  That pass has some black out dates.  Since you are going in December, it's possible you would encounter black out dates with this pass depending on your dates of travel.  Both of these passes are annual passes and annual passes still require having a reservation for the park of your choice.
