ID for kids when flying

The TSA site only speaks to requirements for adults (18 and older) to show an ID. I don't believe children are required to show an ID. If you have infants for whom you have not purchased a separate seat, some airlines will require proof of age. If you are traveling with children who are not your children, I would be sure to get a written authorization from the parents.

No ID required if you are flying domestic.

The TSA agent will ask "who is so and so?" and your child should be prepared to say "I am" or "me". Sometimes, the TSA agent will ask "and what is your name?" instead, but it really depends. My kids were non verbal for a long time and we simply said "this is X and this is Y". That was sufficient.

While this doesn't answer the original question I just wanted to add to this. The written authorization needs to be notarized. Additionally, if you are one parent that's traveling with your kids, especially internationally, you need something written, and notarized, from the other parent saying that it's okay for the parent to take the kids. I'm a notary and have had to notarize these authorizations more than once.
