What is the best way to customize our magic bands? I have two dd's. One is 6 and one is 10 and I thought it would be fun to customize their bands. BUT I don't know where to do this besides choosing colors on the my experience website. All of your help is much appreciated.

Changing the colors is customizing. Plus you can change the name that is printed on the inside. We put nicknames on ours. We have 3 pair each with a different name and color.
August 1989- Caribbean Beach Resort
July 1996- Swan
July 1998- Contemporary Resort
May 2010- Boardwalk
October 2011-POP!
June 2013 - Off Property
July 2014- Off Property
October 2014 - AKL
April 2015 - POP!
June 2015 - ?
You can customize their bands at the parks. There are magic band accessories (sliders) available.

Yes, there a ton of accessories in the gift shops. Probably the best selection we saw was in the Big Top store in the Storybook Circus area of Fantasyland.

Oh, okay, so the customizing of characters and so on could be done by purchasing products at the parks. So ahead of time, just pick a color and name and then we can really change the look when we get there.

The color for each family member is the best way- you don't have to purchase any add ons. They are expensive IMO.
