If you do online check in and wait for a text for your room number do you still need to stop by the front desk for your parking pass?

We didn't get a parking pass on our last trip. I asked, at both resorts, and they said we didn't need one any more. In both cases, we just used our MB to access parking, both at the resort and at the parks.
We did run into some issues at MK on our first day, when he couldn't "see" the reservation on our bands, so we showed it to him in MDE and he let us park for "free". After that, there were no issues.

We've gone without a parking pass for a couple years now - they scan the MB at the theme park booth and we've not had an issue.
Same with us, we stayed at the Art of Animation and they no longer use parking passes, just your magic band.

When we were checking in at BWV is May, we gave our name to the guard at the security gate and he printed out our parking pass.
When we came back during our stay, the guard either scanned my MB or the parking pass.
