Hope this is in the right place, but when you purchase your annual passes online, when do they start for the year. Is it when you redeem the cert at Disney or when you purchase them online?

Trying to figure out purchasing Annual Weekday passes for my family and we aren't going until September, but the magic bands would be really cool to have.

Thank you

They start when you redeem them at the parks.

Folks will purchase the AP's when they catch wind of a price increase but not use it for quite some time after they purchase them.

As for the bands, you have to order them. Not sure as to when you can get them since we only ordered them once we had activated our AP's

I thought I read that you can get your MB's up to 10 days prior to your trip, but I don't remember where I read that.

On a side note, I do not like Disney's website, it is not user friendly.

It takes up to ten days to ship them to you, hence the 10 days prior. We had ours shipped to the resort since Disney does not deliver outside the U.S.

Like I mentioned, I don't know if you can order before you activate your passes though.

Re: annual passes - they become active when you first enter a park with the pass you purchased UNLESS you are renewing an existing annual pass in which case, it becomes active the day after the old pass expires.

Unless things have changed, they actually put an expiration date on the ticket at the time you redeem them at Guest Relations. It's not an activation date + 1 year, it's just an expiration date. At one point, my SO had an AP that expired one date after mine, even though we redeemed them at the same time. The GR CM typed the expiration date wrong on one. We entered the park at that time, however the expiration date was printed on the back of the card even before we entered the park.

You don't have to enter a park to have the clock start on APs. It "starts" when you redeem them.

You're right on that point. Typically one redeems the annual pass on the same day they are entering a park but it would be possible to activate your annual pass as Guest Services and then not visit a park for some time after that. Thanks for making that clarification.

Thank you for the information. Tickets have been bought.

Now, just to make it down to the park to "activate them". Unfortunately, no magic bands for us this trip.

We bought the passes because it was cheaper that way. Not sure we would be able to make it down before they expire, so I will not get to use the MB at all.

Remember you can buy the Magic bands now. They are something like $12.99, if you really want them. You can get them anywhere on property. Also remember to carry your membership card as well as id with you at all times for the discounts the pass offers.

When you say membership card, are you referring to the park ticket or will I get a discount card at the place I turn in the certificate?

Also, I am not about to pay for something that I can get for free. It's just annoying how it is playing out.

You will get an AP card to be used for park admission. We got a membership card as well. Now that I think about it more, we got them with our MB's. Sorry I should have thought about it more before posting. Also you will have to have some photo ID with you when using the card for discounts since they like to confirm that you are who you say you are. Now, they didn't check our ID every time but you just want to be prepared for when they do ask.

I hear you about the bands. Order them anyway, they can be used for future visits even after your AP expires. All you will have to do is link your new tickets to them.

Okay so if we want the Magic Bands a safe bet would be to just purchase say...10 day passes and just upgrade to APs when we get there???

That's what we're doing (although we're staying on property). Made the hotel reservations, then purchased 10 day passes separately. Once there were tickets linked to my account, I could customize and order magic bands - which should arrive this upcoming week. At the 60 day mark, I was able to make FP+ selections. Once we get there (23 days) we'll upgrade the tickets to annual passes. We're going back next August.

If you are not staying onsite, you will not have the bands for your trip either way unless you buy them. :(

Well that *****. :( I thought they were doing away with the card "tickets" all together. Okay so once I upgrade to my Annual Pass will I still be able to get Magic Bands for our next trip in June without actually having to purchase them??
