If you rent cars on any vacation, be prepared for quite a shock. Prices have at least tripled and cars can be hard to find if you wait too long. I can usually get a car for in the $25-$30 a day range, now it's in the $70-$90 range.

Rental companies sold off much of their fleets as travel stopped during the pandemic and now are having trouble building them back up as travel picks up.
:jaws:

I have heard that rental car prices in Orlando have gone up considerably for the reasons you cite. If you plan to rent a vehicle here, lock in your car early as supply is limited and, if your rental contract allows, continue to look for better pricing.

For what it's worth, I recently priced out rental cars for a trip to Scottsdale. The best price I found, by far, was through Costco. The savings was significant, worth the price of a Costco membership if you don't already have one.

That works, I just saved $220 on an 11 day rental. Never would have guessed. It beat AARP discount by that much. Thanks! :cloud9:

I had no idea you could rent cars through CostCo. I have heard how much people love CostCo, but I haven't lived in a town where there was one for 20 years.

I rented a car for 2 weeks through Costco in 2018 during a 2 week trip. Paid just over $400 CAD for 16 days.

Probably didn't help that in April, 4,000 rental cars were burned to a crisp at Ft Meyers Airport. They were being stored in a field. A muffler caught the grass on fire and it spread to all the cars.

We used Costco Travel for our trip at the end of April... The good news is they saved us over $150 ... the bad news is we will be paying more than double for the same trip dates a few years ago.
