What's the Orlando sun like in May? I need to be prepared for what kind of sunscreen and how much - I HATE the stuff, but I'm Scots-Irish so my family says I'm so white I glow in the dark. I freckle like crazy and have never had a tan in my life. We went to Mexico in March of last year and I found I had to slather it on and repeat frequently. Similar for Florida, I'm guessing? (I've been in September - is it like that? Mostly we've gone in December and only ever hit a day or two that needed it).

It normally is very hot. You will definitely need sunscreen.

Yes, you will definitely need lots of sunscreen for a May trip. Keep in mind, mid-June is when Florida gets the highest sun and most direct rays - a time to make extra sure you're protected. Even on days it's partly cloudy in May, you'll need sunscreen - very different from the December sun. Be careful!

If you're very fair skinned and hate the feel of thick sunscreen try using a more expensive brand. My GF is in the tanning industry and loves California Tan. She says to use more than a 30 you begin to lose the vitamin D your body needs. So, try that and you should be fine ... May will be perfect in Florida !!

Sunscreen will be a must in May. We use Neutrogena beach defense in the yellow bottles and no one in my family has gotten a sunburn at disney, in waterparks, or at the beach, as long as they reapply often enough. My son's red headed girlfriend did well in Universal last summer, until she forgot to reapply at the water park.

Having lived in Florida for many years (prior to moving to Texas), I agree that you definitely need to use sunscreen in May. Heck, sometimes even in December! This would be especially true if you are fair-skinned.

ouch! My daughters and I feel her pain! The first time we went, we had a particularly sunny December day at Seaworld. My 13 year old got a bad burn, so I went to the hotel gift shop and got her some sort of Aloe Vera gel. Turns out she was ALLERGIC to that and got a rash on top of her burn! Great parenting moment there.

We as parents will have moments like that !! ... but .... with our many failures or near misses, we create perfect stories for family gatherings .... all is well that ends well ... enjoy your trip !!
