Other things to do around Orlando?

We will be in the Orlando area from December 26-30 for a football tournament for my son. We do not know his playing schedule so it was hard to book anything in advance.
Also, I really hate crowds and the kids are spoiled with front of the line passes so we will not be visiting Disney or Universal parks this trip. Any other suggestions of fun/different things to do around the Orlando area that does not involve the parks?

If we have a full day, I thought we will probably head to Kennedy Space Center (I am assuming I can get tickets this close, I keep getting errors when I try to view the website at work) and if the weather is decent, maybe find a beach too. Any suggestions on the best beach? Any other ideas to kill time and not waste the entire trip?

Thanks

Karen

Unless a launch is scheduled, you should have no problem getting into the Kennedy Space Center.

Kennedy Space Center is good and as mentioned, it is not a problem to get tickets. In the same area, Cocoa Beach is pretty good. Daytona has a lot more going on and is only 60 miles from Orlando. On the Gulf side, Clearwater beach is good. Of course you could go to Sea World or Busch Gardens or get a combo ticket for both and they probably won't be as busy as WDW or Universal.

I was actually just coming on to ask this question as my mom is going to be on a solo trip in Orlando for a week in late January. She was thinking about looking for some parks that she could do some walking/hiking through. She was also asking about beachs on the Gulf side.

Thanks!

I know it's late January right now, but you happen to see this, check out Clearwater beach.
