Cell phone provider with the best coverage?

AT&T seems to have the best coverage in my experience. I live in FL and travel north frequently. I never have issues. Specifically, in FL I think they offer the best or are at least comparable to Verizon. My husband has Verizon. His issues are rare as well.

I would think that either ATT or Verizon should have similar coverage area. Since your husband already has a Verizon phone I would look into one of their share plans. It would probably be cheaper that different carriers.

When we travel to WDW from the St Louis area I have never had to charge my phone until we arrive, and then that is over night before we hit the parks..

I have used both ATT and Verizon, Verizon is my carrier and has been for years. When I worked before retiring the police department I worked for gave me an ATT phone to carry. When I would go to certain areas around our jurisdiction I found that I had service on my phone and not the department phone. Just my story.

Unless you spend a LOT of time traveling, find a carrier that has great coverage where you live. It will be maddening if the phone never works in your own town.

We have had AT&T for over 15 years. Have never had issues with cell signals no matter where we were. We have driven across the country, down the east coast to FL, lived in both northern and southern California, and been to Puerto Rico with our phones over that time. We have had coverage in the middle of nowhere and in heavily populated areas.

If your husband already has Verizon, switch and get a family plan to save money.

Verizon has the best coverage. But you will pay for that coverage. I switched to T-Mobile recently and have not noticed a difference. Been on a few business trips to Florida since and noticed no difference there wither. Saved over $60 a month and now get unlimited everything 4G data, talk and text) so its a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Check out Sensorly dot com it you want to compare real life coverage. Its crowd funded coverage maps, coverage maps show real locations, so they follow road coverage for the most part. it will look different that the coverage blobs you see on carrier sites.

Generally Verizon and AT&T have the most widespread coverage with T-mobile and Sprint a little behind that. I'm with an off-brand carrier on the AT&T network and have never had a problem with coverage at the 'World'.

A bit OT, but if you're looking at changing carriers... There are discount-carriers that run on the same towers/network as the major players for a fraction of the cost. I use Cricket Wireless, it runs on the AT&T towers and network and I pay only $35 a month (that's everything, no extra fees or taxes) for unlimited talk, text and unlimited data (at the $35 price it's throttled after 2.5G each month but I never run up against that limit). There's no reason to pay AT&T or Verizon prices when you can get the exact same service for half the cost they charge.

Verizon, hands down. We've been customers from back when they were Bell Atlantic here in SC. Except we made the mistake of switching to AT&T when they were the only ones to have the iPhone. I could never make calls inside my house. When my parents visit, they have to walk to the end of my driveway to make calls (they're AT&T customers). We switched back to Verizon as soon as that iPhone contract was up. I'll never switch to anyone else again.

Verizon for me! Funny though there is one small area in my town that gets a very low Verizon signal. It's over by the town lake, while I don't notice, my girls do.

My husband has Virgin Mobile and he gets very good coverage. I think they farm it out to Sprint, and it's cheap. Very cheap. The hospital where he works and specifically in the CAT SCAN "cave" where he works does not get Verizon.

Yes, Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network... The only downside to the 'off-brand' providers is they are often prioritized lower in terms of data on the network. Data is going to be huge in mobile very soon. There's a reason why ATT and Verizon have stopped offering unlimited data, with rumors of Sprint following soon.

I do suggest looking at switching, you may be surprised. I'm getting better service with T which surprised the heck out of me. Couldn't even receive a text in places with ATT and now I stream almost continuously without issue. Actually I get better service streaming the XM app to my car radio than I do using the native XM satellite signal on the same radio.

Thank you so much for all the responses! I will definitely look into all the suggestions here. Coverage here at home is of course a necessity, but so is coverage while we're out of town.

I have to confess that I currently only have cell phone and text coverage, so accessing anything else with a new service/phone will be all gravy. :-)
