Had the privilege of seeing an advance screening of "Inside Out," and Pixar belted it out of the park. Hit all the high and low notes, created moving and lasting characters, and took us along on another adventure. But beyond that, it touched on some pretty deep themes. It's a lovely, wonderful movie.
See this one in a quality theater. You'll still love the story, but will miss some of the immersiveness of the settings and sound if you are sitting in an inferior theater.
Every one of our party of every age loved it, including the jaded teenagers. It's appropriate for the little ones too, although per the usual Pixar heart-tugging, there are a couple sad notes.
The new Pixar short, "Lava," is very cute and sweet. Also features a tune (similar to a very famous song) that will stick in your head for days to come.
Don't miss this one.

Thanks for the review, can't wait to see it! It looks so cute. Do you think it would be appropriate for an almost 4 year old? He's ok with sad but doesn't do well with scary scenes.

I can't wait to take my kids to see this movie. I think it will (hopefully) make a real impact on my 11 year old autistic son. I have spent 11 years trying to explain emotions to him and this movie really looks like the perfect way to do so for a visual learner like my child. Plus, we are also moving this summer (to CA!) so the themes will resonate with them as well.

I guess it really depends on what you would consider scary. There are a lot of suspenseful moments. I seem to remember a "surprise" scene, and there's one part that is sort of funny/scary. If he's seen Toy Story 3 he'd probably be fine with this one.

I agree -- I think this movie would be perfect for your son. it illustrates emotions in a way that's impossible in real life, through specific colors, voices and activities assigned to each feeling. Also, the characters' names are that of the emotions, so there's no subtlety. I'd love to hear what he thinks about the movie.

Thanks for sharing ... I can't wait to see it.
We've been to a few movies lately, and see the various previews, and they all look just super. I'm so glad the movie really is that good.

I've only seen the commercials, but does anyone else see a strong resemblance to this movie and Cranium Command (from Epcot)? ...at least in the overall concept.

I can see that.
I don't know, I just can't get hyped for this one. I should be giddy for an original Pixar, but it just feels sad, and blah, to be honest, the snippets in the trailer didn't seem very funny to me. Hopefully I'm wrong!
ETA: After reading the OP's review again, the 'deep themes' kind of scares me. LOL Is it preachy? Because I hated that about Wall-E. :nono:

If the reviews are any indication, this movie is one of Pixar's best ever. Universally loved by every reviewer I've seen online.
I think the "deep themes" are more along the lines of being in touch with your feelings and learning how to manage them. I don't think there is anything preachy in this movie, like there was in Wall-E. I could be wrong, though, as I've obviously not seen it. I didn't like that about Wall-E either.
This movie seems to be generally very uplifting and happy.
You're "all growed up now", Mel. You don't have to be a teenager again. ;)

No, not preachy at all. And I had the same reaction to the trailers. The humor is WAY better within the context of the movie. I hate when they give away the best jokes in the trailers because they just don't work as well when they're one-offs in a snippet.
By "deep themes" I meant that it touches on the universal experiences of growing up. But it does so in some really imaginative and creative ways. There are emotional ups and downs, but that's what makes it so good.

I agree with the OP this was a great movie and hilarious. From the previews I too thought this was going to be just OK and some 'meh' comedy. I was lol during many scenes...even well past the joke. it's been quite sometime since I have enjoyed a Disney movie this much!
