The wedding planning has stalled on drinks that can be served at the reception. I don't really understand the ins and outs of alcohol and would like to get some impartial opinions.
My daughter was told at the initial meeting she could have two types of hard alcohols, four types of beers, champagne and wine, and four signature drinks (but no shots). They asked her to provide recipes for the four drinks that she wants, which she did. They rejected her recipes, stating that each signature drink could only have one alcohol in it. She says that is ridiculous. I'm trying to find a middle of the road.
This is one of the drinks she wanted
HPNOTIQ Sleeping Beauty
Drink Type: Martini
Ingredients
1/2 oz. Hpnotiq
1/2 oz. Bourbon Whiskey
1/2 oz. Banana Liqueur
1/2 oz. Grapefruit Juice
Instructions
Shake well with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a cherry. Winning recipe in the Cocktail Competition 2004 held by N.B.A. – Japan
Are there really signature drinks with just one type of alcohol? Are there substitutions you can make so it only has one alcohol? Any other advice you think would be helpful is welcomed.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.
Do the signature drinks need to be made from the 2 selections of hard alcohol she picked?

As far as I understand, yes. I don't know if signature drinks have to have hard alcohol or not, but she is only allowed to use the two she picks.

Signature drinks do not necessarily need to contain alcohol. Depending on her guest list she may want to pick 2 alcohol based, 1 wine/champagne based, and one virgin. It would be easier to give suggestions if you knew what 2 hard liquors she selecting (I'd assume vodka and whisky) and when the wedding is. Fall? There are a lot of good selections that could be made with one liquor and honestly the vendor should have a list of suggestions on hand for her to look at.

It's too bad that she just can't omit a couple types of beer in favor of more options for hard liquor. Aside from vodka and whiskey, I can totally see rum and gin being included there and would definitely widen the options for specialty drinks. Did the Disney planners have any suggestions for her?

This is exactly how I feel.
Thanks for the info. She picked Iced Tea Sangria, White Wine Vodka Sangria (which takes citrus vodka and raspberry vodka. They say that is two alcohols. She says it is just vodka.), the Sleeping Beauty drink and Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade. The wedding is Sept. 22.

She isn't having it at Disney now due to some family tragedies on the groom's side. Can I just scrap the whole thing and pay for them to elope? :fresh:

My dad used to say he'd give me the money for the ladder
Here's some for you to look at
Maple Bourbon Old-Fashioned
Apple Cranberry Moscow Mule for this you would need to replace ginger beer with ginger ale
Apple Cider Mimosa
Autumn Chiller non alcoholic by substituting ginger ale for ginger beer

Two more that I drink that might work
Pomegranate Champagne Cocktail (is champagne one of their wine choices?)
Cranberry Pomegranate Martini (I omit the Cointreau altogether when I make it)

If the two liquors to work with were rum and vodka, you would be able to make a plethora of drinks.
I personally would be glad they rejected the Sleeping Beauty drink. Hypnotiq and whiskey would be one disgusting drink to most people. Hypnotiq itself is usually pretty bad. Of course you are wanting to see how many people you can make puke that drink would be a great way to go if you can get them to drink any of them.

Oops, sorry. Just made that assumption. Sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances.

Would this one be good? It would be her wedding colors in a glass if they put the blue hypnotiq at the bottom and then the purple on the top. I had found it before and wondered if we could use it in place of the sleeping beauty.
