Is it depressing? One of my sons friends (16 yrs old) has cancer and I'm not sure if I can watch something like that right now. If it is uplifting I may want to give it a try.

It is really hard for me to answer this question as after now watching 2 episodes I'm liking it more and more.
There are parts that are quite uplifting, I love the fact that these kids are still just kids going through all the ups and downs of teenage childhood, while dealing with their illnesses better than many adults. And there is laughter.
But........ if I were going through the experience of a child I loved, in the same boat, it probably would be too hard to watch.

Just a word of caution - the tv ratings site Zap2It has this little predictor called "called the cancellation bear" and its their (usually accurate) measurement of where a show stands in regards to cancellation or renewal, or in this stage of the year "early cancellation".
Red Band Society is the first show that Bear is predicting for cancellation. Low ratings, produced by an outside studio and it was greenlit by a guy since outsted. The bear is basically calling it three strikes and out.
Forever is another show I'm dvring and the Bear has that one on the bubble. Won't start watching it until I know it has a full season at least.
Sad to hear this about Red Band and Forever, we are enjoying them both.

I work with some cancer patients and I think it can definitely be uplifting. not all the kids have cancer. some have other medical conditions but they are all bonded together trying to live a positive life.
and I did just read where its in danger of being cancelled and that made me sad. I hope the networks give it a chance. it is a quality show
