I am interested in purchasing a new laptop for my boyfriend who is going back to school (college). He has never owned a laptop before and as I said he is returning to school. We are also in a long distance relationship, so a laptop that has a good camera for video calls would be great. I am not looking for anything elaborate, but it should be good for writing college papers and for using Skype.
My budget is to spend $200 or less. What laptop have you purchased before or recommend? Thank you!

You best bet if you budget is $200 is probably a Chromebook. I would just stick with a know brand like Samsung or Lenovo. You might want to check with his school. Most schools will provide discounts on hardware. Good luck! It's always good to keep learning!
