I have a question about the Pirate rooms at CBR. I have been told they are in the Trinidad South section - which is very far from Old Port Royale and the pool. I'm hoping someone with experience staying in this section can answer this - how bad is the walk from Trinidad South to OPR? 10-15 minutes? I've seen some posts where people say they would never stay in Trinidad South. We usually stay at CSR so we are somewhat accustomed to longer walks. We stayed at CBR once but we had our car so we drove to OPR when we wanted to go there. Does CBR still have an "internal" bus?
My kids aren't set on the pirate rooms, although would be neat to do since we don't usually splurge on stuff like that - we usually do standard rooms. But if we're going to regret it because of how far the room is from the pool/OPR, I may re-consider. Appreciate any input on this!

I don't think the walk is that bad...when I've stayed there every morning, I get up, got get my tea and walked the entire Villages around the water. I kinda like how that is a separate little group, with their own pool and playground.

We just stayed in a Pirate Room in July. I had requested one of the villages closer to OPR, but was 'upgraded' to a Pirate Room. In hindsight, I should have turned down the upgrade, as we'd stayed in a Pirate Room before.
I'll be honest, it's far out there (and I love CSR and how spread out it is.) I'd say your estimate of 10 minutes is about right to OPR. It certainly isn't convenient for refillable mugs, IMO (as I talked about on a recent podcast.) They do still have the internal bus though.
No doubt it is peaceful and quiet in Trinidad South. I'd say a third of the rooms weren't even full when we were there, and that was in July, peak season. The quiet pool is nice out there, and the actual stroll to OPR and around the resort is beautiful. The Pirate rooms themselves are cool! I love all the little details from the 'plank' carpet to the barrel furniture and the pirate ships 'carved' into the shower wall. It's very well done. So I'd say if your kids are really into Pirates, it's a must.
It's very easy for me to say never again, because I've been there, done that. But you guys might love it! :pirate: I just prefer being a little closer to the action.
We have stayed in the pirate rooms twice and didn't find the walk all that bad. Definitely not convenient for refillable mugs, but not as bad as some may think. My kids were set on the pirate rooms on those trips so the decision was easy.
We've also stayed in a preferred room at CBR when my mother traveled with us. Those pirate rooms were definitely too far out for her arthritis. I must say it was very nice to be so close to the main pool and food court.
I'd stay in either room again. I think the pirate rooms are cool enough to try at least once!

Thank you all for your replies! I think the thing that worries me most about this section is the comments I've heard about the buses! Heard comments about people waiting at a bus stop 40 minutes and watching completely FULL buses leave CBR without stopping at Trinidad South. That would drive me nuts - it's the one thing I love about CSR - I know what the bus stops are, know where to request to stay, etc. I can't say I still have not had bad bus experiences with CSR. So I do know that you hear bad bus stories at almost all resorts. It would just drive me crazy if I paid extra to stay in a pirate room and then had bad bus service.
Anyone have any comments about their bus service at CBR staying in the pirate rooms? I think that is what is really going to make my decision.
Thanks again for any input!

We never had any major issues with the buses when we stayed in the pirate rooms. A couple of times we thought the bus took a bit long (as can happen at any resort), but we never saw a full bus bypass us because it was too full. We did, however, have that happen to us at POR last November. It can happen at any resort.
We did have one incident where it took forever to get a bus from DHS back to CBR in the middle of the day. That was super frustrating since the resort is so close to DHS. You would think the buses would make it back quickly and more frequently since it's located so close to that park. But again, we've had the same thing happen when staying at other resorts. It's just the nature of relying on bus transportation.
Also wanted to note that all of our CBR stays were in the summer, so it was definitely not a slow period. Still never had any major concerns about the buses. Like mentioned already, nothing that can't/doesn't happen at other resorts.

We never had issues with buses either, and never saw a bus pass by Trinidad South, like I've seen folks mention. And we were there in July.
Mary Chase, I posted this reply a few weeks back to another query:
We stayed there two trips ago and if I didn't have children, I'd probably love the seclusion. It's almost like having your own island. It's beautiful and quiet. As for the kids, the Pirate theming is very cute.
That said, it really is a disconnect from the rest of the resort. The bus system really affects that area. Those that know the layout and bus route know there's a bridge just before S. Trinidad that leads to the exit. On busy mornings (and find one in WDW that isn't anymore,) buses would fill to capacity prior to reaching our stop, turn and go over the bridge (bypassing us completely,) and leaving. We always had a CM at our stop, monitoring. One morning, waiting for a bus to the Magic Kingdom, we saw bus after bus exiting without stopping. 40 minutes and no bus to Magic Kingdom. I saw one empty bus drive past (to a designated holding area.) After enough protests, the CM radioed to the empty bus and he came to our stop and our bus stop ONLY. We essentially received a chartered ride to the Magic Kingdom.
The other negative was at night's end. We (DW) likes to shop. Lots of packages shipped to our resort. Stopping at Centertowne (Old Port Royale) to pick up packages at 10:00 or later, then making that long trek to our room was too arduous for kids. I exited there myself. My wife exited at S. Trinidad with two kids and made their way to the room themselves. And since we were on the second floor (AND THERE ARE NO ELEVATORS,) she had to climb the stairs, pulling a stroller, carrying a sleeping 2YO, and diaper bag. It was difficult.
I love the resort, but with young kids, this would not be an option for us again.
Not to be negative, but that's my opinion. I hope it helps.
