that was my thought..i dont think i want them wo handles even though they would take less space
DVC owner at AKL, OKW & BRV. stayed at every WDW resort except GF & YC. also went to Aulani & Disneyland. top of bucket list Tokyo DL next year, maybe Paris and Hong Kong
I wish they would just offer both, but as mentioned earlier, I'm sure handle add-ons are already in the works. Why not maximize the already ridiculous profit they make on them, right?

Until the offer the handles for extra money ;), Tervis sells a slide on handle that I'm guessing would fit on the Disney mug for those with a need for the handle. I'm torn on the issue. I like the handle so I can carry a couple of my families mug at once, but I like the idea of it without so it will easily stack and fit in the car. But like others said, I'm sure it's a money saver.
I also agree about the silverware, I hope they don't cheap out like they did with the napkins.

Look at how they messed with the iconic Mickey Mouse ears.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner..
I didn't care much for the old handle. I would have preferred a closed loop handle so I could D ring it onto my bag.

For some reason, my first thought was that this is an attempt to stop people from carrying a bunch of them around. As someone that has carried several for my family and then handed them out, I could not have done it without the handles.

That is a good point. Makes it hard to go get a sack of food, and fill cups. Have to send more people. more opportunity to buy/sell other stuff.
Pretty soon, they'll be 6oz cups.

*UPDATE*
So it's being reported on MO that Disney received a lot of backlash over this and the handles are here to stay (for now). No official word yet.

Are the mugs the same size around and same height ? My hubby is quite handy with making things and I can get him to easily make slip on from the bottom handles for our new mugs..
Yes, they are the same size as the old ones, just without the darn handles.
Although, I am loving how they fit in my car mug holder.

I would come down on the side of preferring them NOT to have handles, but I totally understand why handles are a positive/important feature for others. For people with accessibility challenges relating to the handles, I would say give them that feedback early and often. It's not completely impossible they would provide a handled alternative for people who have difficulty holding onto the ones without them.
If they want there to be any credence at all to their claim this is about "guest feedback", then it needs to work both ways, right? Guest with physical challenges need to provide noisy "guest feedback" to counter the "feedback" they've already gotten.
I have to be honest, though. If they had ever asked me, I would have said I don't like the handles. Same as I would have said, back in the day, that I didn't like the great big fat mugs that were the first generation of the refillables. I want it to fit in a cup holder!
