My friend and I will spend one day of our trip (it's a Thursday) in Universal and we were planning on gong to Downtown Disney since we didn't buy a ticket to a park for that day.
Do you have any suggestions for us? I've never been to Disney Quest, but I went through the discussions and the consensus seems to be that it is outdated.
What would you suggest for a fun night?

Strolling through the shops- especially the new Co-Op, dinner, cirque de solei , fork and screen movie (dine in theater) Splitsville bowling- there are a lot of things to do at DTD. Out of those listed I'd most highly recommend Cirque. It's a great show!

Disneyquest IMO is not worth the money for a lot of reasons. It's outdated, was a bit run down last time I was there (several years ago) and there are extra expenses everywhere you look.
If they still include free passes with the Disney package, it wouldn't hurt to check it out if you have never been.
I think you could spend a few hours at DTD just perusing the shops and entertainment.

DVC owner at AKL, OKW & BRV. stayed at every WDW resort except GF & YC. also went to Aulani & Disneyland. top of bucket list Tokyo DL next year, maybe Paris and Hong Kong
Disney Quest is as much fun as Ebola.
We consider it a must to hit TREX for dinner at DTD. It's a crazy place, and very different that anywhere else.
But DQ.. Heeecccckkkkk No.. Overrated, expensive, mostly broken stuff, dated by even my standards (I miss my walkman/tapes).

DQ is ok if you enjoy playing vintage(old) video games. Wouldn't pay much to get in there.
Cirque is fantastic- but it is expensive.
Just wandering around window shopping, checking out live music & having a meal (Love Raglan Road)
is pretty fun.
Thanks for your help!
I have another question -- is there anywhere in Downtown Disney where there's live music and dancing involved?

House of Blues is at Downtown Disney which might interest you. Sometimes they have live shows, so you will want to check their calendar to see what is scheduled on the evening you will be there.
At The Boardwalk, there is Atlantic Dance Hall.
