Today was the first official day of vacation, today we had park passes!
It was a rough first night with our son. He had a hard time settling in his pack and play and ended up in bed with me. Poor DH ended up on the couch. All three of us were trying to get over colds so the lack of sleep was not a good thing.
Due to all that we were up early and slowly rallied the troops. We took full advantage of having a house and made a big breakfast. We were in the car by 7:30 am and on our way to MK. We parked close to the TTC and headed up to the main transportation area. The line for the express monorail was long and my parents wanted to take the ferry for nostalgia factors.
I wanted to see the opening show and was hoping we'd make it but the ferry took forever to take off. We ended up catching a bit of the show as we made our way in. This was our first experience with the increased security all over the parks. DH is a police officer so he tends to notice this everywhere and it was very obvious in the parks. It was our first time seeing K9 teams doing obvious sweeps through the crowds coming up to bag checks. We also saw a large number of uniformed sheriff's officers. For DH, who was nervous about having to leave his ever present weapon home, he appreciated the extra show of force.
We quickly made our way through bag check and headed back to my parent's first traditional ride, small world. DS wasn't really sure what was going on. He's super mobile and we had a hard time getting him to sit still. Next up was the Little Mermaid. Here the bar helped keep DS in place and he seemed to settle in and realize how this all worked.
After the little mermaid we grabbed some Mickey bars and thought we'd make our way over to the Haunted Mansion but we quickly noticed the wait time for Enchanted Tales with Belle was short. We walked right in. This was new for my parents and sister and it was fun seeing their reactions. DH got grabbed, again, for a suit of armor. DS was starting to get sleepy at this point so we bundled him into the stroller when we finished up and headed back to Haunted mansion.
Line was super short again and we got right in. We settled DS between us on the ride and he really seemed to be getting the idea. He was however, very sleepy. As soon as DH picked him up at the end his head was on Dad's shoulder and he was out cold. We wandered through some shops to let him rest and then made our way to Pirates. Again, no line and we headed right on. DS was up again at this point and was a little concerned by the drop but recovered quickly.
By now it was noon and everyone was hungry. We headed over to Pecos Bill's. I was curious to try out the new menu changes. DH and I split a burrito bowl and DS had the mac and cheese. It was a winner all around but oops, I had forgotten our dinner reservations were for Mexico that night.
By the time we wrapped up it was time to use our fast pass for Space Mountain so we wound our way into Tomorrowland. My dad won't ride this one so he sat with DS while the rest of us hopped on. Love this ride as always. Next up we used our fast pass for Buzz, DS was a HUGE fan. Last but not least we headed over to Jungle Cruise to use our fast pass there. It was the first time my family had experienced the Jingle Cruise and everyone was very amused.
As we got off here we got a text that my cousin, his wife and 4 boys were in the park. They live 5 minutes from Disney. We stopped and saw them all briefly and promised to meet up at a later date. It was going on 3pm and the dogs at home needed a potty break.
We headed back to our car and went home to give everyone a break. DS got a midday bath and seemed to really enjoy the break.
It was however short lived, after everyone was ready we headed back out to Epcot! Without fast passes we opted to do Spaceship Earth. DS was really getting the hang of rides and got really excited when we'd get into lines. Next was the Living Seas. The aquarium here is great for giving toddlers who want to run a break. DS went everywhere and had a blast pushing his nose against the glass.
We headed into World Showcase after. Our dinner ressie wasn't until 8, too late for DS to eat so we grabbed him some chicken tenders and let him eat in his stroller while we walked. DH and my sister grabbed beers in Canada and we stopped to listen to the holiday band, who were awesome!
Next up we wandered in France a bit. My mom and I got wine and everyone else tried the slushies.
It was getting close to our ressie time so we headed into Mexico. We were eating in La Hacienda de San Angel. We checked in and waited. By this point DS had passed out in the stroller. We got our text that our table was ready but did realize we needed to give the hostess a heads up that we needed to take our stroller in. We could either wake him or wait for another table. Waking was not an option.
We waited again and finally got to sit around 840. Unfortunately we got placed in a bit of back room which seemed tighter and smaller then the main room. The chips and salsa was plentiful and tasty though. I got the steak here which was really very good but service was very, very slow. Also from our tiny back room we could only see illuminations from an itty bitty window. The meal was good but I wish we had been in the main room.
Fortunately we finished up dinner after the crowds from Illuminations dissipated a bit and we were able to take our time making our way out to the front of the park. DS was still out and fortunately (and very surprisingly) stayed asleep to the car, out of the car, into his pjs and into bed. DH and I crossed our fingers for a better night and we were all finally asleep around 11pm.

August 2020 Caribbean Beach!
Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.
Thanks for writing these up, enjoying them so far. I too am sort of glad for the extra security. DBF is used to packing heat ;) so he felt kind of nekkid without his firearm during our stay.

Your son seems to have settled in to this Disney thing quite well. Be careful, you may be creating a monster :mickey:

Yes, there has been a lot of security recently and, now, they have implemented the metal detectors which will be very strange when we go next!!
Seems like your son is enjoying Disney!!
