As my boys get older, it's becoming more difficult to find a time to visit WDW. I know it will be super hot at the beginning of August, but what are the crowds like?

Thanks!

We travel mostly in July and August. The crowds in the beginning of August are typical summer crowds. It can be hot but no hotter than May-September in FL. We take advantage of the park openings and swimming in the PM and then back to the parks at night. Using FP+ allows us to ride the e-rides. We have traveled in January, October, December and July/August. Because we can truly relax and step our of our regular world without dealing with school make-up work, we prefer the summer. Whenever you go, it is a good time.

I posted this in a similar thread recently and copied here as well:

We went the first week of August in 2012 and had a great time. The parks were crowded but it wasn't too bad. Yes it was hot and humid but we're also from South Louisiana so it was nothing new to us. We tried to arrive at the parks as close to opening as possible. They've done a good job of having most of the queues shaded. It was manageable because we were going indoors for attractions to cool off then walk to the next spot and wait in shade. Every afternoon we cooled off with a mickey ice cream, dole whip , or something like that We went back to our rooms in the afternoons for a nap and to escape the heat of the day. We'd return to the parks in the evenings and the sun wasn't as intense. Most afternoons had a typical summer rain shower. You know how that is... Steam bath

We do not regret going at that time of year. It is manageable, especially if you are used to it.

We've been twice at the beginning of August. It is very hot and humid. There are crowds, especially big tour groups. We had a blast both times. The parks stay open late in the summer, so you'll have more time in the parks. Usually we would sleep in late and stay at the resort pools or go to the water parks during the heat of the day. We would go to the theme parks after dinner. At night the crowds begin to thin out and the lines are shorter. This is especially true after Wishes and after the first Fantasmic! showing. (If there are two being shown that evening.) We would stay late, until the parks closed. About an hour before closing, the lines are much shorter. We were able to do quite a bit without the pressure of having to get up early and fight crowds in the heat of the day.

Thanks, everyone! I think we may be planning a trip in August!

We're going the last week of July and plan on taking mid-day breaks. The last time I have been at this time of the year was 13 years ago with no kids so it will be a totally different experience. From the temps and weather here now....it looks like we'll have plenty of time to get accustomed to the heat/humidity.
