I was watching WDW planning videos from the 90’s/2000’s and noticed that much of the content wasn’t “real.”  By that I mean the ride and attraction shots were mostly promotional and CGI while rarely taken from reality (ie Illuminations with strange consumer-like fireworks coming from Italy’s terrace, people standing inside the falling tower of terror elevator car, people inside of the gibbon exhibit in AK, etc).

It’s all REALLY quirky but I suppose no quirkier than the large fluffy fastpass mascot of the time. There was almost nothing that was genuine. I almost wonder if anyone was ever disappointed when they arrived and realized they couldn’t play with the gibbons or tee off with your 3 wood from the Caribbean Beach Resort promenade (yes, someone in the video did that).

I realize this was pre-mainstream internet and media was often over-produced, but it was pretty cringe-worthy to watch. Granted many of the clips from that era were of fairly new attractions and they’d not yet removed the promotional pre-open CGI stuff from rotation.

Anyone else notice this?

I just learned Characters are everywhere in the parks and resorts and you should expect an interaction around every corner - and chip or dale might help unload your car!

"Had I known then what I know now..." I don't know how many times I have had that thought since my first trip in 2003. Seeing 'old' WDW Planniing Videos makes me think that so much more.

All through the '90s I was making 2 trips per year to visit a college friend in the Bradenton area and drove past WDW so many times without a thought of stopping. It wasn't until 2003, when my (now) ex suggested Disney for our 5th anniversary, that I made my first visit.

Since that first trip, I ordered the planning videos (VHS at first, then DVD when they became available) every year, whether I was planning a trip that year or not.
