They made that into a show!?

"When hinges creak in doorless chambers... and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls.. whenever candlelights flicker... where the air is deathly still... that is the time when ghosts are present... practicing their terror with ghoulish delight."

Wow you people are missing out on some great TV!

Watched all of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad. Both were top notch, although the nod for the best goes to SoA. If you enjoyed The Sopranos you'll definitely like SoA.

I just finished up watching season 4 of Better Call Saul, which is a prequel to Breaking Bad. Great show with some truly great writing and acting.

My new absolute treasure is Man In the High Castle (Amazon). If you haven't watched this yet drop whatever you're doing and get ready to binge. It is literally the best show since the Sopranos.

I also just finished Hulu's Handmaid's Tale. Might not be to everyone's tastes (it's a bit dark), but it's excellent. Many thanks to Canada for recommending this!

I've worked my way through about half of FX's The Americans, but I'm kinda over it I think. Acting was decent, but the plots are just too far-fetched and implausible to make it durable. I will say, though, if you're a child of the 70's and 80's it's kind of entertaining for the period aspects alone.

I remain addicted to Deadliest Catch. I've been watching this religiously since season one and haven't lost anything in terms of my enjoyment of the show. I do miss the Cornelia Marie crew this year, though.

Like John, I adore The Goldberg's. This show has a local connection (it's set in my wife's hometown which is just a few miles from me) and is an absolute riot.

I've watched all of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black and that's quite good, as well. Again, very adult and serious (for the most part), but well acted and well written.

Also a good watch is Netflix's Black Mirror. If you are at all a fan of The Twilight Zone, you'll enjoy this series. It's very Zone-esque but with a modern technology twist. Warning in advance, though, some of the episodes are a bit ... weird. And not really in a good way lol ... just weird.

I'm in a bit of a lull right now, but I'm looking around for the next series I'm going to watch.

I've been going back to the '90s and am watching through Twin Peaks. I love it, will watch the new episodes when I'm done with season 2. I also love a good Golden Girls marathon on Hulu.

Husband and I are slogging through the new season of House of Cards - it's been pretty blah so far. To be honest I haven't really liked the show much after season 2. We need to finish this before starting Orange is the New Black so that's my motivation.

I believe that starting tonight, that if you have Comcast (Xfinity) on demand that they are doing a free week of HBO on demand. I'm sure this is because of the soon to be launched season 7 of Game of Thrones. I know I'll be binge watching S6 of GOT, which I haven't seen yet.

To update some other cable shows that are pretty good (in addition to the ones Ian listed) I would recommend the following.

The White Queen - not sure how completely historically accurate it is, but it cover the period of English history dealing with the War of the Roses.

Mercy Street - only two seasons, and then I think cancelled, but deals with a Civil War hospital that is placed in occupied Virginia under Union rule.

Grantchester - S3 is airing right now on Masterpiece (PBS) and is one of my favorite shows currently. Takes place in the '50's shortly after WWII and pairs a Vicar (who served in the Scotish Guards) with a curmudgeonly local detective (who served in Burma) who find they have things in common (a pint and a game of backgammon) and end up solving local mysteries. Definitely worth the watch.

Orphan Black - S7 is currently airing on BBCAmerica. Not a show you can just jump into, but this is the final season. Worth a look if you can find the earlier seasons.

Ripper Street - also BBCAmerica. Series just concluded this year, takes place in White Chapel London, just after the Ripper murders, stars Mathew McFayden as a more modern detective in sort of a stone age system.

Broadchurch - again BBCAmerica, stars David Tennant (Dr. Who - Harry Potter). Season 3 currently airing. Two detectives following a murder story arc in a small English seaside town.

Luther - a BBC show starring Idris Elba who is getting more and more attention as he does movies. A British detective with some moral grey areas.

Outlander - Starz Channel. Was only able to catch 6 episodes during a preview week, but liked it. Sort of alternate universe, a British nurse newly married just after WWII is mysteriously transported back into time in Scotland. I think they've done at least two seasons.

Unfortunately there are still too many shows in my favorites list that I haven't gotten round to seeing yet.

How to Get Away with Murder on Netflix featuring Viola Davis. I love it so far and would give it 4/5 stars. I would give it 5/5 stars, but it has way too many sex scenes in it and that really ruins the drama of the show for me.

Had to jump back onto this thread and mention that we are binge watching Shameless on Netflix. OMG ya'll. Not a show I would watch with my mom but we are loving it. VERY dysfunctional. It makes Animal Kingdom look like child's play.

A couple new recommendations I can make ...

Ozark
on Netflix ... it's like a better Breaking Bad. Stars Jason Bateman (yes that Jason Bateman) and Laura Linney and is very well written and well acted. Season one was ten episodes and a second season was just greenlit.

Sneaky Pete on Amazon. Stars Giovanni Ribisi and Brian Cranston and a few other familiar faces if you're a fan of any of the other shows I mentioned above. Very cleverly done "fish out of water" drama. I really enjoyed this one a lot.

Sneaky Pete... Ian is this the one where the bad guy assumes the identity of someone he met in jail and tries to convince his family that he is the grandson? And doesn't it also have that actress from Secretariat? - I don't know her name, but she's so great. Except for the part she played in Million Dollar Baby... did not love her character so much in that....

Hello again! Well we ended up FINALLY watching all of season 1 of Man in the High Castle. It was bit slow for us but we did enjoy it. We haven't gotten to season 2 because we often have opposite schedules and we have some pre-established shows that take priority such as STRANGER THINGS. I adore this show. Much of it is DEFINITELY nostalgia for me, having growing up in the late 80s/early 90s, but I also think the acting is fantastic.

Some sitcoms that we watch are Brooklyn 99 and Last Man on Earth.

I've been catching The Goldbergs in syndication and I'm warming up to it more. It's a little hokey, but then again, I loved shows like Full House and Family Matters when I was younger. If my daughter were a little bit older I could see this as a great family show for us all to watch. I also really admire how many of the stories are rooted in actual things that went on in the creator's life.

Man in the High Castle is definitely not a show you can watch while distracted, its one that requires full attention. Definitely worth it to watch season 2.

Stranger Things. Just watched season 1. One scene, the cool kid (sister's boyfriend) is wearing a pear of Nike Cortez tennis shoes. That was about the only cool thing I ever wore in the '80's.

Another odd show, can't remember if it was Netflix or Amazon, but called the "OA". If you like quirkey shows that only slowly reveal some of the mystery, like Stranger Things, you might like OA. And I think its optioned for a second season.
