We are staying at the Dolphin for our 5 day trip. We were told that we cannot get magic bands through our package so we bought them on line through Disney.com. We then linked our park tickets to the bands with our My Disney Experience fast passes and restaurant reservations on them. My question is... will I be able to use the bands to make purchases if my magic band is not "attached' to my room account? I am assuming that I will have a room key from the Dolphin hotel?
No you have to be staying on property to link to your credit card.
